@Caledon Ken, I did what @jumanji said to do with success. Now, it’s running a scan on the part of the drive that is corrupted. It says the files are unreadable. It’s still scanning however. Let’s wait until it finishes and see what it says. There is a firmware update for this hard drive on the Dell site that fixes read/write errors. But I think it already has that firmware already. The computer is really slow in Windows. But I’m seeing hard disk activity in this repair in Command Prompt. So, maybe it’s doing something. I don’t know.

Do you think it will be okay to let it run while I go to church this morning? I have to leave around 9:00. Right now, it's 9% complete with 59,751 of 61,440 files processed.

    Most definitely.

    Well this is good news.

So far it has repaired bad files, replaced orphaned files, and deleted unneeded files. I don't know if this will fix the issues with the drive, but it's worth a shot anyway. The drive failure did say it had to do with bad files anyway. Maybe and hopefully I am getting somewhere. I am still seeing hard drive activity from the light on the laptop.

Well, I got it recovered. Now, it’s being slow again. So, I talked with my cousin and she is going to see if a man who knows how to get data back see if he can get it back. After that, we will replace the drive. If he says no, we will replace the drive anyway.

It’s in a startup repair loop. Keeps booting to Windows Startup Repair, and then runs a scan for startup problems, and the only problem it finds is bad hard disk. It won’t even boot into Windows again. So, I’m just going to wait on my cousin and then replace the drive.
