Quick Question, What is that Passive Heatsink on Motherboard called

Quick Question, What is that Passive Heatsink on Motherboard called-cnkna.jpg

I'm referring to the Non-CPU heat-sink to the right over there, I just got into telling an old story to a Co-worker about this little tidbit I figured out about those Loosely connected Heat-sinks there in terms of what their purpose generally serves in starting up computers, (from several experiments I had worked on as a student in the past, let's just say,) and I completely realized I never truly learned the proper name for those things. So yeah, anyone know what those are called again? Just quickly trying to research for the proper terminology for whenever I may need to further investigate their true repair method, for such a delicate microchip. Thanks.

I don't know, but if you download the manual for the motherboard you're using, you can probably read the block diagram and figure out what chip that heatsink covers. Then, you could call it the "quack" heatsink (assuming it covers the quack chip) and everybody else would know what you're talking about.

Looks like a Northbridge or Southbridge Passive Heatsink.

Well Let's just say I get a lot of Motherboards in our Workshop Office with the same aesthetic design of what just appears to be a really thin Bent Paper Clip to hinge this Heat-sink thing to a microchip. We don't get anything top tier here like some of the absolute Gaming motherboards that showed up before this image, so while I can't differentiate and point the element out from those more "Modernized" motherboards, I can at least say that most if any of the top tier performing motherboards that we do have are all legacy stylized in a manner similar to the Pic above, with the exact same element piece in some shape or form as the illustration above. So I feel like trying to speak with others of the exact proper name this is instigated for.

My systems call it the Chipset heatsink. Older boards had two chips (North Bridge and South Bridge) and it interfaced from the CPU to all the ports on the MB. New CPU's have a lot of direct interface to some ports and the Chipset interfaces to the the rest and uses one chip.

    As above.

For classic layout of the chipset may be this may help with orientation of the chipsets.
