    Hi Edwin.
I have a pink one that has the microphone symbol and a black one that has the headset symbol on it.

I have a dual input at the front. I will load both pics on here soon

    Edwin,
Thanks mate, much appreciated. I'll give it another shot as you suggest and see how it goes.

Do I need to have my other external speakers connected at the back panel? It has a green plug connected in the green socket.

I've just connected the plugs as indicated and its not being seen / detected. Maybe the headset I have might be too old or not designed to be used on Windows 10 Platform.

Are you sure the front panel ports are connected correctly to the motherboard? Also, there might be settings in the BIOS/UEFI regarding audio functions as well.

According to your motherboard manual, there are two modes for the front audio panel connector. HD audio and AC'97. You probably need to change the setting in UEFI/BIOS to AC'97.

It's usually a good idea to RTFM.

    https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/m...P8Z68-V_LE.zip

(I don't know why the motherboard appears as a P8768-V-LE. The "7" is clearly an error.)

If the PC was scratch built, I wonder whether the front panel connector cable was attached to the motherboard. If not, that would explain why the front panel jacks aren't working.

    @ NavyLCDR,

That's a good point, I'll have a look and check this later today.

    @ bobkn

I was reading the motherboard install disc. you are correct it was a typo, it should have been P8Z68-V_LE.

The PC was built from scratch, at the time of putting the pc components together I was reading from the instructions book.

The front panel connector cable is attached to the motherboard, as the USB ports work, reset button works. but will double check and trace those wires.

    Cheers

Yes on Asus board the front panel audio is a separate cable that plugs in toward the back bottom of the MB close to the back panel If I remember right on the P8 boards there are two choices 5.1 or AC 97 with your older headset you would go for the AC 97 location

HD or AC97 should be chosen to match the wiring of the PC's case. As the case is just listed as "Coolermaster" in the system specs, I can't look up what type the OP's case uses.

    Hi Clintlgm,

    Thanks for your reply.

I would hope that the wires are already plug into that location, I'll take the side panel off my pc and have another check. I would not think there would be this much of a problem to get these headset to work.

I'm wondering whether I should upgrade the old headset to something a bit modern lol.

Thanks to all that have helped.
    Cheers

Sorry if I was misleading: the front panel audio (AAFP) header is separate from the system panel header. They are not near each other on the motherboard. (The system panel header is at what I'd call the left front corner of the board. The AAFP header is just inboard of the audio jacks in the rear I/O panel.) The audio is on an entirely different cable from the controls. The front USB ports are on yet another cable.

Your headset should work fine. It's a plain old analog set. The operating system should be irrelevant, as long as you have working drivers for the front panel audio.
