Barton, do a search on the internet and you will find that there are issues with 3.1 that they are still working one, here is a start: https://www.howtogeek.com/353410/3-p...-need-to-know/

CountMike, I cloned my hard drive to a USB 2.0 stick with no problem and it will boot in the USB 3.0, but not in the 3.1, it goes into a repair mode.

Probably doesn't have drivers for 3.1.

Pleas explain??? How do you put 3.1 drivers on a USB? The PC is brand new and all drivers are present in "Devices".

    Hi there
plenty of USB-C->USB adapters around - got a couple with a Samsung S8 phone --- OT but the USB-C charger charges phone quicker (by far) than the standard USB ones. As far as computers are concerned have absolutely no problem plugging in USB2 devices (and of course USB 3) devices into USB 3.1 slots - some Mobos make the thing really confusing when they have USB 3.1 slots still with old standard USB connectors but aren't blue like classic USB 3 but marked often illegibly "ss".

If your computer has USB 3.1 ports then the drivers will be built in to the BIOS (if they are bootable) or possibly you got some type of CD with the mobo with all sorts of hardware drivers on it for Windows etc.

These days computers (and I think for a few years now) can boot from USB3/3.1 ports.

    Cheers

Drivers would have to be preinstalled in OS on the drive.

    And
I'm at loss as to what are you trying to achieve, if it doesn't support booting from that 3.1 port, than use another one. Once windows are installed and even if drivers are not available in installation files, windows will probably find and install drivers after connecting to internet.

Thanks for your input, but I still do not have an answer to the issue.

I don't want it disabled, I want the bugs Microsoft (the driver being Microsoft's) has created in 3.1 fixed. It is still useful for write/read.
