Recover files from Mac OSX formatted Windows Partition

I have a laptop running both Mac OSX and Windows 10. When running Mac OSX, I wanted to create a bootable OSX USB installer, unfortunately I selected my Windows drive during the process. Mac OSX formatted it to Mac file system, and wrote 6GB of data on it (the installer data).

What can I do now to recover my lost drive data? I guess I can not restore a bootable drive, but would like to save as many files as possible. I have seen many recovery software are file specific. I would like to recover especially my Sony Vegas .veg extension project files. Any software you recommend to use?

Should I delete the Mac partition now from Windows and try to recover files like that, or should I leave things as is?

Welcome to the forum. You need specific unformat software there is plenty free ones don't try file recovery as it will need it up. If one unformat doesn't work try another in most cases you can get everything back if nothings been written since format

The problem is that 6GB of data has already been written.

Luckily I managed to get my files back from the drive. I used OSX version of TestDisk to rewrite the partition map from HFS+ to NTFS primary. Though the partition still has problems, at least now recovery softwares can see the remaining directory and file stucture. I used Minitool to display the directories as if I was in Windows Explorer, and copy the needed files and directories to my external drive. At the moment Windows see the drive RAW, I will try to convert it to NTFS from cmd.exe, and will see what happens. But the problem is actually solved, I saved a backup of my stuff, my work project files are back, I am happy. Never wondered this could be done like that. Data recovery can do useful things indeed.
