"This Driver can't release to failure" -???

I have several of these messages every time I start W10.

I can hardly believe how uninformative these messages are! Which driver? Which application or hardware?

MS dropped the ball on this one for sure. How do I identify the offending driver?

I get the same error on upgrading from Win 8.1 to Win 10. I had no network, and graphics card not recognised. Reverted back. I would really like to know what has failed, and how to get Win10 running. PC is less than a year old with Gigabyte Z97X motherboard and 750Ti graphics card.

The same happened to me. I found that this error is related to Gigabyte's App Center for their motherboards, and I didn't find a solution yet. Everithing works fine, but every time I boot up my computer, or reset it, I get several pop-ups with this error in the Windows 10 Startup.

In windows 8.1 there weren't any problems, but since I updated to windows 10 using the updater, not a clean install, I get these problems.

    Gigabyte drivers at fault

I replaced my Gigabyte drivers and utilities with the W10 versions available online and the messages have ceased.

Thanks that is helpful. Can I load the Win10 driver versions whilst still on Win8.1 , and then retry Win10 upgrade?

Microsoft has details of drivers here:
    Microsoft Update Catalog

and I can find Win 10 drivers for network adaptors, graphics card and other devices, but I was unsure if I could load on Win8.1, or if I need to download ready for when I upgrade to Win10 and risk losing network and graphics card again.

    Hi James,

The only Win10 versions I found on the Gigabyte site were the ones for Intel series 100.
Are those the ones you used? It seems from your sys specs that you are not on a series 100 PC. That would be good news for me.
    Can you confirm?

    Thanks in advance,

I was having the same problem with the app center, I'm on a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 board. I uninstalled the App Center and installed the newest version available on the page for my board. Even though it doesn't list Windows 10 compatibility it has stopped giving me warnings when starting my machine, I only get them when I start the Live Update feature in the App Center.

I receive that every time on bootup after I loaded Windows 10 on my desktop computer.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard and, after viewing some of the other reports I feel that this may have to do with Gigabyte, as one is reporting that he's seeing this error after he had installed a Gigabyte motherboard.

Also, every time he runs some of the Gigabyte software, such as the system information application or the performance monitor, he sees this error message pop up.

If you have a Gigabyte motherboard, this may be why you are getting this message.

Check with Gigabyte and see if they don't have some sort-of fix for this.

Otherwise, other than my computer running slower from the increased needs of Windows 10, everything seems to be working fine on my computer.

Gigabyte crapware really is nasty stuff, it's the cause of many a BSOD and crash, particularly App Center and System Information Viewer. My advice would be to uninstall them completely and find alternative methods to accomplish what you use them for.
