    Install HP LaserJet 4M Plus

Printer is connected to router with EtherNet cable, was able to print test page which gives IP Address of: 10.0.0.81, and did find drivers but attempting to install with any of the LaserJet 4 drivers listed below, gives the error message, "Printer Driver was not installed".

This printer has both Postscript and PCL personalities.

Thumbnail sketch of what I did:

Settings>Devices>Printers & Scanners>Add Printer and Scanner>[Clicked on the text, "the printer I want isn't listed"]>chose "Add a local printer" using existing port 10.0.0.81>did Windows Update and each of the following LaserJet drivers for this model of printer failed to install:

    HP LaserJet 4 Plus
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 300
HP LaserJet 4/4M Plus PS 600
    HP LaserJet 4/4M PS
HP LaserJet 4/4M PS (300 dpi)

the USB port mentioned in the 400 day old post on this topic was not a choice.

rig is an i9 7900X running at 4.5GHz w/32 GB Ram with an Asus X299 MOBA.

Due to HP policy there are issues with obtaining drivers and getting them to work

The latest available drivers for Windows 7 need to be manually installed as explained on the linked post on HP forum - Not something I've tried and no guarantee but hopefully this can help get some extra life from the old workhorse

My 2 HP printers use the same Router IP address as the computers but the last group of numbers will be greater such as 192.168.1.139 and 192.168.1.149. My 2 NAS drives use a similar set of IP numbers. Using the Command Prompt or PowerShell and ipconfig shows the Notebook I'm on now has a similar IP address but last number is .138. The Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0. The test page mentioned suggests it was from the printer itself, not from the Printers applet in Windows.

10.0.0.81 Is a valid IP address for Local but is not usual for most home systems

It may be worth opening a command prompt on the PC and entering an "ipconfig /all" instruction, (no quotes, to check that the actual network matches the range that the Printer reports

I have an HP 4000 printer at home and it would not install over the network. What I did was installed the printer to a local LPT port even though the printer wasn't connected. Once the drivers installed, I then went to the printer properties of the printer and changed the port from lpt1 to the IP address of the printer.

Also, before I do any of this, I would look at your IP address for your computer like @Barman58 suggested. IT seems odd that printer would have 10.xx.xx.xx ip address when most home systems start with the 192.168.xx.xx.

    Anyway, hope this helps.
