    Safely remove hardware icon

Is it possible to get rid of this annoying little icon from the system tray?

Solved by using this program to get rid of it.

I do understand that you want to do it, and it's your machine, and all that...... but may I ask why you would want to permanently remove (until some MS update puts it back) the Safely Remove icon? It's there for a purpose. Pulling a USB device out prematurely can cause data loss and all kinds of headaches. Just hide it. The "app" you link to is messing with a registry entry and modifying values that may cause other issues. To be honest, I don't understand the benefit. I do understand the risk.

Just being up front with you......

    Hello Cerawy,

As Dick posted above, you could set to hide the "Windows Explorer" icon for Safely Remove Hardware.

Put the .bat file, (found at your link), in your Startup Folder.

I see a lot of people saying this, and just wanted to clarify a bit. The safely remove hardware icon isn't necessarily there for a purpose, if you got your devices set to quick removal. See this screengrab. So if you have your devices set to that, you won't need the safely remove hardware icon, and it becomes pretty much useless.

I see a lot of people suggesting this and just wanted to spread some truth out there. The safely remove hardware icon isnt there for a purpose. If you set your devices to quick removal, then you wont need to use the icon at all. See this screengrab.

Sadly, the icon stays, even if you dont need it, and microsoft doesnt give you the option to disable it the same way as you do with all other system icons.
For those who prefer to take advantage of the increased data transfer rate by enabling write cache buffering, the Safely Remove feature is prudent and wise. Your screenshot shows a thumb drive device that is incapable of supporting all available caching performance options. External storage devices, such as a 1TB spinner are very common and benefit from the caching; therefore, require being Safely Ejected. I sincerely hope you are not suggesting that UN-truths have been disseminated here.

Perhaps if you post Feedback to Microsoft, they will consider your request.

I think i already tried that solution, and it creates an annoying popup window, everytime you sign into windows.

You can execute that batch file as a VBS script to avoid the blank-black quick pop-up. It's a PITA, but can be done:

Do you have any idea how to get in touch with them? I see a lot of people posting on microsoft's forums, but they mostly reply with copy paste answers.
