Can I connect external drives to new computer with windows 10

I am new to Windows 10 (64bit) and need your guidance.

I got some external drives (USB 2) two of them needed installation with CD which I got and one can be connected directly. I have been using them on Windows Vista without any problem.
As my important data is saved on external drives that is why asking this question.

Can I connect external drives to computer (Windows 10) or should I take any safe measure to avoid data loss?
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

    Thank you

First of all, welcome to Ten Forums!!! Glad to have you here!

To answer your question, all you're doing is connecting them via USB, so Windows 10 will automatically install any drivers needed to run the storage drives. You should not have any problems whatsoever.

Yes Welcome to the Community. I've got two Western Digital Elements 2TB Drives connected with no problems. You shouldn't have any either.

Hi, I very much appreciated the cooperation extended by you and others. Also thanks for quick reply.
If, I understand correctly it means I do not need to install drivers rather "Windows 10 will automatically install any drivers needed to run the storage drives".

Hi, sorry again, I completely forgotten how the drive number will be assigned such as "F" or "H"?

You're welcome and I can understand your apprehension.

Your system will install necessary drivers if any are required. They may well function just like a USB Flash Drive.

The system will also assign the drive letters E:\ and F:\ and so long as they stay connected that will not change. If it were me, I would connect one, go through a boot and then connect the second one, and from then on leave them connected unless you HAVE to disconnect. Maybe even labe each for the Letter and port they're connected to.

    Good luck.

Yes automatic for drive letters however you can also edit the Drive letters in Disk Management I do this to keep from them getting confusing I use letters like R or X they will keep this letter after a disconnect and reconnect also. Actually, I use the A an B for my two back up drives since we no longer have any kind of floppy drives any longer

Thought of trying that but was unsure if I'd confuse Windows in the process.
