    A couple of Diskpart questions?

    Hi all,
I have a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive that Ive created. I have a couple of questions that Im curious about.
    1. If I select the USB flash drive in Diskpart and then type in Detail Disk. There is an option listed there..."Boot Disk" and in my case it says "No". If my flash drive is bootable Windows 10 media created with the Media Creation Tool shouldn't that say "Yes"?..or in this case does Boot Disk refer to something else?
    2. My second question is pretty similar. If I select the USB flash drive and Type Detail Volume there is an option "Installable" and in my case it says "Yes". What is Installable referring to?

Id just appreciate if someone could clarify the two points above. Im trying to get a clear understanding of Diskpart.
    Thanks guys

Do you think that USB drive is an installer that can install Windows on a standard hard drive?

Or do you think that USB drive is itself a bootable and fully usable Windows 10 installation that you can boot from and work from, just as if it were installed on a standard hard drive?

    Or something else?

By experimenting with the various diskpart commands and attributes -- can't find conclusive documentation -- it looks like the "Boot Disk" field in the detail disk command only says "Yes" if it's the disk the system itself booted to. Thus, I got a no when I stuck a USB into my PC for my Macrium Reflect Rescue Media (which I am 100% sure is bootable). My current system disk, however, does show a "Yes" value for the field on that machine.
As for the Installable field, it shows "Yes" in the detail volume for both C: (my OS volume) and M: (the Macrium Reflect Rescue Media volume). Further checks show the value is "Yes" for ALL of my drives, including USB- and direct attached volumes (except for those lacking drive letters). I'm guessing this simply indicates whether or not the drive could be a legitimate target for an OS install.

I don't know what you mean. I know the Media Creation Tool has created a USB flash drive that is used to clean install Windows 10 onto a PC/laptop. The reason for my question is just to try to understand what the Boot Disk and Installable options mean in Diskpart that's all?

Thanks for that ED. It is a bit confusing. It seems that you are seeing exactly the same as me though on your bootable USB flash drive

That stuff is often cryptic and subject to interpretation, as you've found. They have to provide a one or two word explanation, rather than a paragraph.

My larger point was that your USB stick apparently doesn't contain Windows 10. It's an installer only, that will lead to Windows 10, but as is, it's not a "boot disk" in the normal sense of that term.

But Diskpart is a great tool and I encourage you to stick with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I was a bit confused by the term Boot Disk because it says No next to that option. I know that the Media Creation Tool has created bootable Windows 10 installation Media so I was wondering why it doesn't say Yes
