Here you go. http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/ The Samsung 850 Evo's are the best right now. 450 is pretty solid with SSD's, since they can only go as fast as the different paths that it has to. The m.2's are good, NVMe's are better if a desktop. SSD Form Factors: Everything You Need to Know - TechSpot

That depends, do you want the best performance? If the answer is yes, go with Samsung. If you'd prefer to have close enough speed to the best, but less cost, go with WD Blue 3D. The 1 GB Sandisk SSD actually has lower performance than the WD Blue and cost a buck more. The chances are that you would not notice much performance difference between these three in your system.

I might just go for the WD 3D as an external backup drive, can't go wrong at 174 bucks and free delivery. Yes, my system does have the 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO...

    Hi folks

For standard Backups etc you don't really need SSD's -- not price performance value when you can get decent pocket sized 4TB self powered USB 3 drives for around 130 USD (inc tax).

SSD's will be absolutely worth it for running OS'es, VM's, video editing scratch areas etc on etc but as backup devices ????.

Once the price matches those of standard spinners then my view will be get an SSD but currently I wouldn't buy for using as a backup device.

Of course "....If money no object …" but most of us aren't there yet !!!.

    Cheers

Better to compare directly. Pick one and compare others by typing what you want:

    userbenchmark Compare/SanDisk-SSD-Plus-960GB-vs-Crucial-MX500-1TB

like bro67 said, you won't notice much difference between the best, but Sandisk plus is quite an old technology. WD blue 3D supposed to be good alternative, but I'm sticking with Crucial (MX500 atm) and Samsung (Evo 860) for SATA drives.
Prices are going down for all of them, since NAND production is larger than demand

You are looking for the Write MB/s. The Samsung Evo drives are outpacing most. Crucial uses their own Micron boards in their drives. Personally I would look at the SATA to m.2 adapters and use a m.2 card at this point. Faster drives.

I am using several Crucial MX SSD drives. Very satisfied so far.

One word of caution.. older boards could have some problems booting from that adapters, so if you're gonna use it for boot (system), use them only in newer boards with m2 connectors onboard..

Could be that this problem is solved... feel free to correct me

You don't really need SSD for the backup drive, but it's nice to have...

When you have a system with M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 drives, the SSD would be a nice addition for the backup drive on the USB 3.1 port. Not as much for the actual backup, but for restoring the image, data, etc.

Money is an object, but when you are getting in to the neighborhood of "you cannot take it with you", might as well...
