I have used Kodi for quite a while from a PC, mostly using it's add-ons and have not used to play a DVD. Kodi is multi-media great tool however it media streaming player requires more development as it has problem streaming at various throughputs. It will sometimes find a connection to be too slow and adjust. However compared to the streaming players used with e.g. Hulu, Netflix, Vudu, etc. it's streaming player could use some improvements and features. I use those all three of those services plus others and rarely had problems, even when the connection is slow.

I first started using a small sat dish years ago back in the early 90 when directv became part of Hughes Communications. I remember back then we purchased are own sat receiver that ran from around ~$600.00 to over a $1000.00. I seem to remember picking up a slightly used one for $500.00.

Currently we have a 500GB Comcast connection the serves a bunch of wireless clients, so I no longer use a sat.

DVD Shrink I used yeas ago however the current version after downloading and install - even though the website states it's one hundred percent free when loaded it prompts me "Trial" and "Unlock" which requires a key code.

It currently shows I have 1 use left. I'm uncertain how to make a payment for a key code? Is a key code provided if one makes a donation.

I'm not able to burn an iso file greater than 4,572,760 KB to a 4.7GB DVD-R. So I tried using DVD shrink to burn a dvd-r.

DVD shrink I could not find a method to use an iso file as a source so I tried both loading an iso file (greater than 4,572,760KB) as a virtual drive and also tried copying the iso to a directory. However kept receiving an error with either a directory or virtual drive as a source.

Now when I try to load DVD Shrink I receive a message box that the trail period is over and then prompts me for a key code.

So if I make a donation I'll receive a key code? It's not really clear as I haven't yet found anything to purchase DVD Shrink for a key code.

Also during it's trial period all it produced was an error while trying to shrink the contents of an iso files as a source.

Perhaps I need to set the output to create an iso file instead of burning to a dvd-r? Or there's a feature to allow one to load an iso file to be shrunk?

    Hi there
    @albert1

    forget dvdshrink

simply use AnyDVD -- doesn't matter if the target iso is say 6 GB or bigger in size --kodi will play it. Forget DVDshrink -- AnyDVD simply makes an exact copy of the original DVD whatever its size and simply removes the regional coding B/s.

Never understood the whole B//S of regional encoding anyway -- presumably even back a few years ago people from USA / Europe /Asia /Australia visited other people's countries with laptops so why on earth would Laptops have regional locks on them anyway.

    Cheers

Ok downloaded and installed AnyDVD however the received messages about different version types? and a Trial Version.

When I select "Order" leads me to a website with purchasing selections. 1 - 3 year subscriptions and a lifetime subscription for 109 EUs and a message stating.

When you purchase one of our products you will receive the following:
    • A registration key that prevents the trial version from expiring after 21 days.
    • Technical support as long as your license is valid.
    • Full use of the software, including updates, for as long as the license is valid

Expired subscriptions can be renewed at any time.

So I'm not really sure if I want to purchase anything since I don't burn or use DVD's very often. I mostly save and then run DVDs from ISO files. Such as installing an application or running one of the few dvd movies backuped to an iso.. Most of my DVDs are stored away, unused in a cupboard.

I was only burning a few saved iso files to DVD-R for a friend, which is something I don't normally need to do. I also keep Operating systems Ive used in the past saved to ISOs, some dating back to NT and OS/2. I tried storing old files to CD's but most eventually became corrupted and unusable. I use to have stuff dating back even earlier to the early 1980s. (when I first started using a PC) ancient cp/m programming even before there was a DOS. However I think many of the older files stored on floppies and hard drives were eventually corrupted or lost.

So I keep my more current data on the original CD's and DVDs and back them up to mostly ISO files on a backup hard drive. if the drive every fails then I'm able to create new isos from the original rarely used cds and dvds.

Use dvd-decrypter to rip and create the file, then use dvd shrink to fit to a standard dvd.
The ONLY site to use for dvd shrink is videohelp.com/software/dvd-shrink, version 3.2 july 25 2004.
There are alternatives, guides and user comments on that page.
There is no need to pay anything to achieve your aim.

@albert1, Where did you download your copy of DVD Shrink? If downloaded from the proper site it is totally free and no key is needed. Use videohelp.com and look under the Tools/Software and Downloads section found on the left hand side of their web site for any video programs you may want to try. VideoHelp Forum

Edit: I have used VLC. MPC-HC and Leawo Blu-ray Player and don't every remember being ask to select a region when I watched a DVD or Blu-ray disk. All programs are free if you want to try them. If I remember correctly Leawo Blu-ray player will install extra programs if you don't deselect them.

I uninstalled DVD Shrink and found it to be a version 4.3. While uninstalling it prompted me for a total free version worth $$$ if I purchased an item from one of their partners.

I can't remember the url it was downloaded from.

So I downloaded and installed version 3.2.0.15 from the provided link and it doesn't prompt me for a license key.

I then opened an iso file movie (4,775,220 KB) to a virtual dvd drive. After loading the virtual dvd into DVD Shrink it was backuped to another movie iso file and shrunk to 4,472,032 KB.

After burning the shrunken dvd using imgburn it plays ok from a dvd player.

I don't use a dvd player very often as I mostly stream movies these days, but needed to share a few of my old movies backed up on isos with a person who setup to only play dvds using a dvd player.

All the solutions here are sledgehammers to crack a nut just to bypass region limit on a PC. I said earlier use DVD Region Killer.

Reauthoring etc. is only needed if you intend to create region free DVDs to play on other DVD Players.

dvd region killer only works if your dvd player is region free, old players are not region free, mine isn't. On the region killer website.the Top Alternative is dvd shrink. To reduce a dual layer dvd to fit on a single layer, then dvd shrink is an unbeatable sledgehammer.

A dvd player was the required method.
