I don't have Stereo Mix after upgrading Win 7 to Win 10

This is an HP dc7900 which had Windows 7 HomePremium version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) installed.

It had Stereo Mix in the audio recording section. If I remember correctly it wasn't there when I acquired the machine and I installed a Realtek HD Audio HD driver, after which Stereo Mix was there.

After upgrading last night to Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134. 191) Stereo Mix is no longer available.

The audio drivers are Microsoft's. I downloaded Realtek's High definition driver, but that's made no difference. Microsoft's drivers are listed in Device Manager.

Will it help to Disable or Uninstall the Devices and then install the Realtek software again?

FYI: As suggested before you could just use VB Cable instead.

Stereo Mix no longer appears. - Windows 10 Forums

Other than that if you've got a Macrium Reflect Sytem Image backup it should be possible to reinstall the driver from that.

    Thank you Callender

    The VB Cable doesn't work.

I have read those forum entries but nothing there helps I'm afraid.

Having had Stereo Mix with Windows 7 and not being able to find or enable it in 10, I decided not to struggle with a recalcitrant system and have gone back to Windows 7.

The normal route, going through the recovery palaver, didn't work. For whatever reason the system couldn't restore Windows 7, so I reinstalled it from the original Microsoft c.d.

I still can't get Stereo Mix. Very strange. I did it before on the same (this) machine.

I suppose this should now be on the Seven Forums site.

It works for me. You won't see stereo mix but it should work in the same way. Just select speakers as playback device and VB Cable Output as default recording device. In VB Cable Output Properties select "listen to this device" and "playback through speakers.

Then configure whatever audio program you are using to use VB Cable for recording. Basically it should record anything that you can hear through your speakers.

FYI: It never worked for me at the first attempt. A configuration change got it working.

I use Cool Edit Pro and it will record only from Stereo Mix.

Try downloading and installing the Realtek driver.

    Thank you Ben.
Good news. I installed the HP driver and Stereo Mix is now installed.
I'm very grateful for your help.
