Want Large 4K Monitor (>48 inch) no TV tuner necessary

    Hi there

would like to get a very high quality 4K monitor (>48 inch) that doesn't need a TV tuner but has at least 2 and preferably 3 HDMI inputs.

Most of the high quality 4K stuff seems to be TV's that can double as a Monitor, or the large ones that are monitors only seem capable of 1080p at max res.

    Any recommendation.

    Cheers

Not sure why anyone would want a Monitor that big. . lol. I have 27 inch monitors on my PCs and those are almost too big.

I have dual 27" LGs on my Photoshop machine. They've got the right panels, IPS, and have proven to be stable so the calibration and profiling has been working for me. My situation may not match anyone else's.
If I had to do it again I would look at a single large panel. But the biggest draw back that I have encountered is that text shrinks on a hi Rez Monitor because pixels have no physical size and some programs are better at enlarging text than others. PITA for certain but that's life.

The size I know in stores right now are 49 inch ultrawide panels and specifically designed for gaming with higher refresh rate at 144Hz. So far, only Samsung is readily available online.

Just get a TV. Economies of scale.

Make sure that you get one with a true 60 Hz refresh rate or better.

Not sure why you want no tuner. It may not increase the price. If you insist on not getting one, look at Vizio. They make tuner-less "monitor" TVs.

Things are different in TVs. Good computer monitors are often IPS panels. (Relatively slight color shift with viewing angle.) For TVs, they can have relatively poor contrast. VA (vertical alignment) panels have better blacks, but viewing angle problems. OLED panels have good blacks and wide viewing angles, but may have some uniformity issues.

I agree. A TV would be the best way to go. Although I also want that 49" monitor I posted. It makes my 34" monitor so small.

I'd still go for a Panasonic though - all being equal.

    Hi there

problem with (at least in Europe inc Nordic countries) is that any TV requires a "TV tax" which is typically around 200 - 250 USD a year whether you watch terrestial Live TV or not -- since I use "Streaming" with Amazon Fire TV I don't legally have to pay this "Tax" if I watch TV on a "Monitor" via live steams .

You might be right though - since the current discounts available on large 4K TV's are very enticing.

Incidentally once you've used these large monitors you can't really ever go back to standard laptop screens -- even 28 inch monitors look tiny !!! -- the standard graphics in most computers drives these new monitors OK so that's not a problem --not into intensive gaming etc.

I think I prefer 1 or 2 large monitors than 4 or 5 smaller ones as well. YMMV of course though.

The main criterion is above all that text must not be blurry (good refresh rate essential) and things like colour graphics stand out - do a lot of stock trading ("Day trading") part time !! so need to run trading software decently and clearly.

My 42" Sanyo TV of about 4 years ago has no tuner, relies upon the cable box for the tuning. It does have 4 HDMI inputs along with the 3-RCA-Cables. Having a need to replace my DVD unit showed me it's very hard to even get a unit with the tuner in it, again relies upon the cable or satellite control box. Appears the tuner feature started leaving at the same time Digital and High Definition came about.
