    Unable to Shrink Volume

    Just got an ASUS laptop.

In Disk Management I want to shrink C: a small amount and use the partition for my data.
But, regardless of what value I put in Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB
I get The parameter is incorrect

The size that is available to shrink is 45032 MB.

    I don't understand,
    James

The C: drive may be using a large amount for the paging file.
Try a third party app like Minitool Partition Wizard

I can't make heads or tails of the download site form your link
Every time I think I'm downloading the partition tool it's MiniTool Power Data Recovery.

Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

It is kind of confusing. When you click the big blue download button a new tab opens. Look at the top of your browser window and go back to the "Best Free Partition Manager" tab. Then look at the bottom and you will see the dialog box asking if you want to run or save the EXE file to set up partition manager.

Please don't let their little advertising trick dissuade you, MiniTool Partition Wizard is absolutely the best partitioning software out there.

First, it installed Chromium without asking, and I'm having a hell of a time uninstalling it.

Second, Mini tool is reporting more partitions than windows Disk Manager.
I found some unallocated space after the c: volume. But, when I tried to create a partition and clicked Apply, my computer instantly sais it encountered a problem and needs to restart.
    It restarted.

Why didn't I have issues like this with my hdd in my desktop???

Chromium (not Google's Chrome browser) is malware to me. To fully uninstall it you must do it from some LiveCD or something like that, manually deleting all crap associated to it.

You can download a trial (30 days) of Revo Pro Uninstaller. It is very good at getting all the bits and pieces.

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

An explanation of Chromium and its tie-in with Google Chrome:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium_(web_browser)

As for Shrinking the C: partition, I've found that not to be easy unless using third-party software such as GPARTED or a bootable Linux LiveDVD with GPARTED on it. Also interfering is other Windows-required partitions on the drive [usually small] that can't be moved or changed.
