"Safe " removing internal drives ?!

Why are my internal HDDs and SSD shown in the "safe remove "-icon ( placed in taskbar) ??
How can we get rid of this absurd notification of showing internal HDDs for removing...............!!

Any chance you have Hot Swap enable in your BIOS?

The ability to replace a drive without shutting down a system.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_swapping

Now it might be marked as swapable but pulling system drive in a desktop will cause you issue.

I have an older system with hot swap enable and if I plug a drive in while the system is active it does not handle properly. This is a data drive but that could have to do with the back plane that drives connect to.

So if you think you might want to try hot swapping perform a controlled test (Have backups)

    Yes UEFI

It depends on SATA/AHCI driver installed.

Sure hope it is... It depends on which version it is. Did you install any manufacturer's drivers (from ASUS)?

This is mine, and it doesn't show internal drives as unmountable (Windows Insider). But I have other systems, that do that.

Try this (editing registry can damage your system - make backup)

Start registry editor and find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device".

Edit key TreatAsInternalPort so it looks as below:

Edit: that code was for Windows 7. For Windows 8.1 and 10 look at this thread:

    superuser | how-can-i-remove-the-option-to-eject-sata-drives-from-the-windows-7-tray-icon

added a new Multi String Value called TreatAsInternalPort to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device with the value:
    0
    1
    2
    4
    5
    (note the newlines)
