Windows wont let me install a better Audio driver

A while back i installed the Supreme FX software for my motherboard, but Asus in their wisdom are about 40 versions of the Realtek driver behind so i uninstalled it

And since then i have upgraded to Windows 1803

I have the latest Realtek driver downloaded and extracted and put in a folder
When i go to the installed version through Device manager and select update and then tell it where to look it tells me "the best driver is installed" - well it isnt , my driver is 6.0.1.8273 , which is from last year sometime ?

Anyway i want the latest Realtek driver installed , how can i install it ?
Windows always thinking it knows best , well this time its completely wrong

Any help would be greatly received

    Thanks
    Dan

Well, try to go to "Device Manger", select the Device, selecter Properties, select Driver Tab and select Uninstall Driver. Make sure you select "Delete Software" Box.
Then try to install the Driver of your choice.
If this does not working, probably your best option is going back to your previous OS Build.

Firstly , i am not going back to my previous OS build over a audio driver, that's ridiculous.

Secondly , in the Realtek audio driver i downloaded i do not see an EXE to install , how do i install the most recent drivers ?
When i uninstall and delete software , realtek is completely removed so i cannot pick update , so how do i run an EXE to install the very latest ones ?

    Thanks for any replies

    Dan,

You do not need to uninstall the existing driver yourself unless you are told to do so during the installation of the new one [this does happen sometimes] -

    Device manager,
    Sound etc devices,
    RealTek audio,
    double-click to open its Properties,
    Driver tab,
    Update driver,
Browse my computer for driver software,
then enter the path to the folder you have put the driver files in.

For other devices, it can be easier because you can right-click on the .inf files of the downloaded installation files then select Install. This is not easy with some [including but not limited to Realtek] because there are multiple .inf files so you'd have to try all of them and hope that sequencing was not an issue.

    Thanks for the reply ,
But windows keeps telling me that "the best driver is already installed" even though its 9 months old , I was hoping to completely uninstall all the sound drivers and install the very latest Realtek installer

I guess I need the very latest sound drivers that I can install as I will be removing the old ones and not updating as that does not work.
Windows thinks it knows best but I want drivers newer than 9 months old
    Its so frustrating

    Thanks

    Dan,

You tell it to use the folder path you enter but it then checks it and says "the best driver is already installed"?

Is the one you are trying to install really a later version than the one you already have installed?
    - To check the version number of the new one you can open one of the inf files and look at the last line of the first group of entries. It will be in the form - DriverVer=05/16/2017, 6.0.1.8158
    - Device manager can tell you the version that is currently installed

For an earlier version of Realtek audio drivers, I
    1 right-clicked on each .inf and selected Install {I just ran them in the order I found them and I did not have a problem} {my recent notes are not clear enough on this issue but I think I must have done the same for all 6 inf files in the current version}
    2 right-clicked on the Maxx Audio Installer (x64).msi and selected Repair {if I just ran the msi instead it said that I had to uninstall the previous version myself but the Repair option did that for me}

Much later on I had severe sound distortion that went away when I used the Windows 10 audio troubleshooter & let it ditch the Realtek driver and install an MS one in its place. That fixed the problem. When I then tried to reinstall the RealTek driver, the severe sound distortion returned until I disabled WavesMaxxAudio in Task manager's Startup tab. The sound it now fine but the headphone socket does not work [I did not notice whether it worked alright with the MS driver but it had certainly worked before the sound distortion problem started].

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Go into Device Manager, click "Update driver", "Browse my computer for driver software", then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".

If you know it better why are you asking at all?
If you Delete Drivers like I said, and Reboot, and the go to Device Manager and Update Driver, Search Online, windows will Install latest WQHL Drivers available from OEM!!! OK, did you understand me or should I make a drawing.
And yes, 1803 has a couple of Issues, I myself have and that it the reason me and many other are going back to 1709!
You know it better, why are you asking at all!?
