Plugged in my iPhone and noticed this odd icon being displayed

    Hi all -

Never a day of peace with W10...

I simply inserted my iPhone 7 and W10 took care of the necessary preparations.
Take a look at the screenshot -

Now, does that look like a Cellphone to you?
Also look at my external USB 3.0 WD 4TB HDD drive icon. Doesn't look like an external to me.

My Autorun folder/Autorun.inf file were deleted by W10 and I had to restore the files to the WD drive.
The external is now fine with the correct icon that I had created (not shown here.)

So I rebuilt the Icon and Thumbnail cache and it made no difference as to the iPhone.

    What might be going on?

    Thanks.

My iPhone 7 looks the same way. I assume it’s because Windows read and write to parts of its memory.

    Now *that* is interesting!
Don't see a way to easily change it.

The drive icons look exactly like mine. An exception is the 2 NAS drives in the bottom section showing the 2 Mapped Public folders. Also the MyNetN750 is part of my Wireless Router.

I just noticed one of the WDMyCloud drives is labeled wrong, it should be 1 and 2.

And I should have mentioned Drives F:, G: and H: are all USB.

My understanding is that Windows 10 represents compatible external USB-connected devices in the manner in which they present themselves.

AFAIK, similar to my iPhone 6s, an iPhone represents itself first as a Windows 'removable storage' device then as a dedicated device connector (via iTunes' dedicated USB device driver stack, which - in turn - triggers the launch of iTunes) to proprietary device storage using Bonjour/IPv6 as a connection protocol.

In Windows 7, an iPhone is displayed as a Cellphone.

    Enough said, lol!
