    Which is different from the internal structure of files I assume? Out of curiosity, is there actually a diagnostic tool that checks for the internal structure of files?

    Johnny,

    SFC compares non-configurable system files to the master copies of them that are already on your computer within parts of the C:\Windows folders. It is not specifically looking at file structures.

    I do not know of any tool that can check the internal structure of files and such a tool would have to be specific to each of the application[s] that create & edit each of the files.

    FSUTIL can tell you if the volume is "dirty", i.e. it requires a chkdsk /r.
