    Trimming an External HDD? Maybe a W10 Pro bug?


    Hey folks -

    Think I found something... Look...

    What's going on here? Windows 10 Pro, Build 1803.

    No replies. Really?

    I'm using an external WD My Passport 4TB HDD connected via USB 3.0 - drive operates normally.
    Does someone have the same setup and can test?

    I already escalated this to WD's "Third Level" technical support.

    That is correct!
    The drive is purely an HDD, not even a hybrid...

    So this thread got me to thinking....let me look up mine and HOLY CRAP looky what I have. Keep in mind I have 2 Seagate 320Gb 7200 HDDs setup as RAID 0. This is what my "optimize drives" sees......

    So I can't even defrag my drives natively. I have to use a 3rd party application. Anybody have any recommendations?

    That's because of RAID which actually doesn't need trim, RAID driver keeps that under control.

    True statement. RAID is different, but Windows is still reporting it wrong. It's not an SSD, lol.
