so just now using the touchpad and working smoothly
    then suddenly just stops again
I check the mouse properties and its still ENABLED
I check the Reg key that we changed the permission on and that has NOT changed its still set to 1
so using the usb mouse i stopped and started the mouse again from mouse properties and touchpad started working again

    what a bummer

So it might be worth investing in a new mouse.

Huh it's the touchpad that's the issue?

or the mouse is interfering. They are both control cursor.

I think we discussed way back, remove mouse and just use Touchpad to see if it would fail. (Take transmitter right out)

Did you ever try that experiment.

If it's not hardware, I suppose there could be some other setting /data that is overwritten. But it would be much harder to determine what it might be.

Does yours have a palm check feature?

    (Example for Synaptics:)

You could also experiment in Safe Mode - but this would mean leaving your laptop for a considerable time. That might at least show it's not hardware.

yes it does and I have disabled it now

do i need to amend those reg key settings back to default for that key?

Leave it for now, but there's clearly something going on we can't guess at.

Try to isolate hardware from software- Safe Mode, use a boot disk, create a new user... Is something running that's disabling it or is it happening by itself somehow.

Note- it could even be a fault in the lowest level hardware- a bit that records the state of the touchpad.
Using a boot disk and finding it still disables itself would verify that I think.

What you could do if no solution, and I think that's where this is going, is to change the permissions back.
Create a continuously running script that either
    - monitors the key and when disabled re-enables the touchpad
    or
    - continuously enables it

    Complete fudge.

Thought- do you have a key combo that disables/enables your touchpad? On mine Fn + F1 does that. Could it be you're pressing that key combo?
