Otherwise, assuming something writes to the registry, you could try monitoring that key to find out what it is.

You mentioned at one point that you had installed an older driver and it worked. Are you sure Windows did not update that driver? (You can try to protect drivers by hiding - disabling updates- provided you can intercept them).

Currently using the driver that windows has installed on restart after I removed other drivers

We tried to block driver updates to see if this would sort the issue out.

Currently if I remove all drivers using device manager and drive store windows installs a Windows driver but this works but doesn't give all functionality like pinch zoom and side to side swipe. If I reboot the laptop Windows 10 installs and Elan driver

Basic questions: (else this is getting nowhere, I feel) -
1. Do you have a version of the driver that appears to work?
2. When your touchpad has been disabled, has the driver changed?

So I followed the relevant tutorial as suggested at the start of the thread.

At the moment I have a working driver and the driver does NOT change when the touchpad is disabled
