Did you ever installed the chipset for it, its usually the first driver one would install from a fresh clean windows installation ? Have you ever used any registry cleaner like maybe CCleaner ?

No ... I don't find any registry cleaner to be useful, unless one knows for sure how to use it I would say they can cause more harm than good .... When ever one does a clean fresh installation of windows I tell others the first thing one should install is the computer chipset driver follow by graphics and internet and so on . And you would usually get the drivers from the manufacturer website, look for your model and drivers for that windows version. Truefully if I were you I would have a external hard drive and back up your data and what not. Afterwards, I would do a factory reset - re install the factory windows 7 install. Download Macrium Reflect free version and make a full back up image of 7 . This way if you ever need the original windows you have a backup of it, manufacturer don't usually warranty their products unless it has the original windows . Once that is done I would wipe that hard drive completely clean and install windows 10 fresh clean . But before one does so I again check manufacturer website for drives for windows 10 and download them first . Chipset, graphics, internet -LAN / wifi , audio , touchpad for laptops and that pretty much it and anything else let windows update do the rest

    so how odd
used the new driver and been working fine
used the laptop last night at an event and worked fine
this afternoon turned on laptop and mouse was again not working
attached is a pic of the ELAN settings which oddly now show nothing - neither enabled or disabled
I manually reinstalled the v24 driver and its working but ELAN settings are as attached

Would it be a safe bet that last night you did not have mouse plugged on.

When you started at home in went mouse and the problems started.

Unplug mouse and restart. See if it clears

Mouse receiver was def plugged in as its always plugged in...... Mainly cos the touchpad keeps disabling so I need it to re enable.

    That I can't answer.

I know in screen shot the Touchpad is not disable when mouse plugged in but could be Windows sees it differently.

But back to observations. Was mouse present last night?
