Any new alternative to Logitech Squeezebox

    Hi there

I really loved the old Logitech Squeezebox system (and their Internet radio) -- the squeezebox system also had optical output as well as analog so a really great way of feeding audio into a high quality music amplifier / speaker set.

The server software still works fine on Windows 10.

I'm looking for some type of equivalent product -- a mobile phone isn't very good as a replacement (although works fine as a controller).

The Sonos system is way too expensive -- so anybody got any ideas on alternatives --

My squeezebox receiver is still working but it's definitely due for retirement soon.

Squeezebox Receiver (no longer made unfortunately).

This isn't likely what your looking for but I listen to my Internet radio on a Pimoroni Pirate Radio. My version of it anyway. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/p...-w-project-kit I put the electronic part in my own case and repurposed some unused speakers. It can be setup to stream "your" tunes and be controlled via a smart phone. There is some assemble required though. Some software install too.

    Hi there

    Thanks
that looks interesting -- no problems with soldering etc -- I don't need HDMI so I'd route the DAC's into an optical out if poss.

Controlling via mobile phone is no problem -- I do that anyway with the squeezebox even though it has its own controller.
I suppose the main audio codecs are handled -- FLAC, M4A and MP3.

    Cheers

The pHat Beat could be swapped for something like this, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pi-dac-pro for good quality sound that may also be easier to feed to a Stereo etc. Pimoroni has a special case for that board too, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/p...ant=5472074753 The Pi 3B+ is the current top of the line Pi with dual band WIFI and Bluetooth.
Lots of options if you don't mind a bit of do it yourself.

The codecs part I'm not sure about? I guess that depends on what program you use to play them? Prior to getting my Pirate Radio I was running KODI on a Pi 3B. OpenElec actually. And I was just playing MP3's.
