Cannot print after update to version 1803

Several people I help with their computers have lost the ability to print after the April/May 2018 update to version 1803. Some of them tell me the problem 'fixed itself' after a couple days. Three people still cannot print after a couple weeks.

One person has an HP Color Laserjet and a Savin Color Laserjet, both network printers. When trying to print to either printer, Windows immediately comes back with a message that says "problem initializing current printer - check settings". I have tried clearing the printer spool folder contents, uninstalling/reinstalling the printer software (also tried compatibility mode installation), and running the troubleshooter. Nothing has worked. Windows 'sees' the printers on the network, but doesn't even try to print to them. The Print Spool Service is set to automatic.

A couple other computers have similar problems, with different printers attached.

I cannot figure this out. The printers worked fine before the update. Any suggestions?

I had the same promblem and frustration for days, couldn’t print after 1803 update. Found a solution from an other and it worked for me. On you pc, uninstall your printer and all related software to make it operate. Then go to the printer website to reinstall the printer. That’s what i did and i’m able again to print emails, pdfs, etc etc. Good Luck, hope this works for you and others !

Hi have you tried running the Print and scan doctor on the HP Printer or the trouble shooter as my friend next door had trouble with 2 of his printers we ran them and it worked on both

For what it's worth, my printer is an Epson Workforce 840. I ran the pc's Self Diagnostic test and it still found no printer issues/no problems. Unfortunately after that scan i could still not print. Therefore i deleted my Epson software and printer and reloaded all from the Epson website. This process was the solution for me. Good luck

Just update or uninstall/reinstall the latest version of your printer's driver. Check the manufacturer's site for the latest drivers.

    Welcome to TenForums @Statman

Many HP printers only support SMB1. See this pdf for the list...
    HP said:
The following print devices do not support SMB version 2. Disabling SMB version 1 support on servers and other networked scan destinations will cause features on these devices requiring the SMB protocol to malfunction.

If the HP Color Laserjet is on that list, enable the SMB1 client on the PC in Windows Features. By default SMB1 is turned off in 1803.

    Thanks, Bree.

I thought you nailed it since the HP printers were on that list. After tweaking the SMB 1.0 settings, I re-installed the printer drivers and rebooted. But, it did not solve the issue on both computers.

Windows 10 still refuses to print.
