Block autoloading of mouse driver Windows 10

I understand how to turn off driver autoload when Windows 10 is updated. That works for all drivers. Is there any way to stop the loading of one specific driver? In my case, the Windows mouse driver does not work with my Logitech wireless mouse. It always installs to take precedence over the Logitech driver. After every update, I have to go into Device Manager and uninstall the Windows driver. Really annoying. If I can't prevent the installation of the Windows driver, is there any way that I can force the Logitech driver to take precedence?

Hi, update or upgrade to a new build? Could you confirm? It would seem strange for your mouse driver to be affected by a Windows update (rather than an upgrade, when PCs get a new set of drivers).

What you're describing sounds more like what might happen after an upgrade. That said, I've not noticed a problem with my (basic) Logitech mouse.

    Update vs Upgrade

I don't know the difference between an update and an upgrade. I do know that Microsoft makes changes to Windows 10 about once a month, and that every time it does that, a new mouse driver appears and the mouse stops working properly. I have to delete that driver in Device Manager (leaving just the Logitech driver) in order to get my mouse to work properly.

Hi, an upgrade is the big 6 monthly change when you get a 4Gb or so download, your PC works hard for up to an hour with perhaps 2 restarts. The build number changes, all your operating system files are replaced. New features may be introduced, and perhaps some removed.

Updates are usually smaller, although the first after an upgrade can be almost as big. These normally change no features and are meant to correct problems.

The News section here has a thread per upgrade and per update per build.

Given that, what is your build number?
    Windows key + R, winver

Please post a screenshot of your Update History so we can see which updates or upgrades you've received.
To post a screenshot please use the icon to the left of the video icon above your post.

    Please also run
    SFC /SCANNOW
from an admin command prompt and report the result. (This will take a little time).

    Thanks.

    Windows Version 1803, Build 17134.48

SCANNOW result: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".

FYI discovered that the erroneous mouse driver gets installed every time I do a system reboot. So not necessarily tied to an update process. The name of the erroneous driver that appears in Device Manager is "HID-compliant Unifying Mouse". The name of the correct driver is "Logitech HID-compliant Unifying Mouse". Weird.

Have you completely uninstalled the driver for "HID-compliant Unifying Mouse". including checking the 'delete' box?
    Example:

I would guess the driver installed is one provided by Windows, and is being installed because Windows thinks it is finding appropriate hardware- i.e. it's not a driver update being downloaded.

    Try disabling it:

This does not appear to be a new problem - references back to at least 2015.. suggest you take this up and research it in Logitech's forum or with their support, as they will be best able to help.

Thanks. I have been uninstalling the driver rather than disabling it. The next time it appears I will try that. I'll also check the Logitech forum as you suggest. Thank you so much for addressing this issue.
