    Default printer issues

    Sup peeps thx for checking my problem. I use windows 10, we have several network printers surrounding me that we use each for different function to help our office work efficiently. Windows 10 refuses to cooperate and help out. Here is the exact problem;
    I print files from my computer to a networked colour printer onto pre-printed forms that become shipping labels, I print thousands and the files are continually open on my screen. If I have a file open on one of my monitors that I am printing and open my email and print something from there for example it will take the settings from the previous printed file and use them instead of the "default". I have the option for windows to control my printers off and it still chooses the current printer in use, problem is that if I am not paying attention I could (and have)gotten 100 copies of my email. How do I choose a network printer and in every situation have it "default" back to the "default printer and settings" for the next print job?
    Regardless of settings windows uses the printer in use (or the last printer if I am printing different files on different printers)?

    I want to be able to print a file, and regardless of how many or whether or not it is still printing I want windows to attempt to use my default printer unless I choose to make a change.

    Hi KAnuc, and welcome to Tenforums!

    Do you have "Let Windows manage my default printer checked (under Settings / devices)? Uncheck it.
    Click image for larger version.

    Hi Andre thx for the welcome, I do not have the "let windows manage my default printer" checked.
    This is the frustrating part. the worst is when you are printing a hundred labels on a printer, then open an email right click an attachment and choose print, windows will queue it up on the printer in use and try to print 100 copies, not just simply print the file to the default printer.

    Sorry, you said that in your original message. Can you check the setting again? Found some posts on MS forums, that Windows keeps reverting that setting back to default (Let Windows manage...)

    Also, try to set your default printer through Control panel. Open Control planel, type printers in search box and then right click on your desired printer. Select default...

    Many programs will automatically default to the "default printer".
    But some programs, like Firefox and Thunderbird for example, will always default to the last used printer, regardless of what the default printer is.
    So the first place to check is within the program you are using. See if there is a setting to choose the default printer there.
