Computer audio out suddenly sounds very weak

Hi,

My Pc was running fine this week. When I started work today, I noticed the speakers and headphones were weak. I've tried connecting them to my phone and the speakers and headphones are fine. It is the audio out from the back of the pc. I have turned the volume to max on the pc, turned the volume in the settings to max and I can only listen to it softly but now with noise. I usually leave my volume settings at middle and control the sound using the keyboard onboard controls. I've tried restarting the pc, but the problem still remains. Does anyone know what is the problem with it?

Automatic drivers update come to mind , check to see if windows update decided to screw you by installing / uninstalling your audio drivers .

does your driver have enhancements / control panel apps / filters ? did you check those weren't reset ?
did you check that both left and right speakers got audio ? maybe one of em blew without you notice so now you are hearing a 50% gain coming from the remaining speaker ?

Everything is normal. Did that the first thing when it got slow. All at 100%. No enhancements since it is an asrock motherboard anyway and not some high end board.

-- right-click on the volume control & select Troubleshoot sound problems

-- Settings, Update, Troubleshoot, Playing audio
[as far as I could make out earlier today, these are the same thing with different names used in the two different places].


When my audio suddenly started sounding heavily distorted early today, I ran this troubleshooter instead of reinstalling the audio driver. It fixed the problem in a way that I would not have considered.
- It uninstalled the proper driver and reverted to the default Windows 10 HD audio driver.
- This involved altering both the display driver [because it includes display audio functions] and the sound card driver.
Perhaps it will be as imaginative for you.

I did the troubleshooter. Did not hear anything at all from the test. Must be very weak sound. The speakers are not failing as when I mute/unmute, I hear a loud thumping sound.

I finally found out the problem. The audio ports front and rear of the pc is faulty somehow. I can reroute my audio through my Dell U2715H monitor. Hooking my earphone jack there, the sound levels return to normal. I guess problem is solved. Now to cancel/return my USB audio device which I bought.
