Welcome to the forum. First thing is to see if it's in the BIOS ok if it's not there it's either dead or power, or connection faulty. Remove disk and reseat it

Remove the battery, wait 30 sec, press the Power button several times. Check BIOS settings, disk should be visible. If yes, try to boot some live linux distro. Is your disk visible under linux?

Hi Samuria, i had a look in the BIOS and it appears it is only the SSD that is recognised there. disconnected and reconnected HDD but still no joy.. i guess the outlook is not good... maybe try something through the warranty. Laptop only 6 months old. Western Digital HDD

If it doesn't void warranty you could take the HDD out, put it in a caddy (box) and try it via USB. That would eliminate issues internal to the laptop.

If you are in the habit of using disk imaging, which we continually urge users to use, and the drive is faulty, you will be able to restore an image to a new drive. Painless. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + large external storage.

If you aren't, then this is the time to realise the benefits of imaging and start using it.
