    HP 5610v printer

I don't see an area for printers so I put it here.

As the title says, I have a HP 5610v AIO. I've had this printer for a long time and it works just fine and works with 1803 very well. That said, I've always had a DSL setup for my phone and internet. Now I have a cable setup. Now I'm trying to setup my fax and I'm having a hard time getting it to work.

HP tutorials and guides only show "how to" setup the fax with a stand alone phone line or a DSL with or with out answering machine. There is no definitive "how to" to setup the fax with my cable modem. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi Plankton

With your cable modem did you get VOIP or something else that provides dial tone?

Yes....VOIP. I have to plug my telephone base unit w/built in answering machine, plug it into the cable modem. There are 2 lines (ports).

You've likely already done but is there dial tone on both of the two ports?

if your modem supports a phone line out and you can actually use a normal phone on it then all you need is a normal phone line splitter (1 way in 2 way out) so you can direct one phone line to your fax , one thing remains though , untick "wait for dial tone before dialing" on dialing screen because VOIP dial tones are unrecognizable by faxes modems .
