    Why do I have DirectX 11.1 instead of 12?


    I recently installed windows 10 from windows 7 on my laptop. However, I see that after running dxdiag I have DirectX 11.1 instead of 12. I thought Windows 10 is supposed to come with DirectX 12? What is wrong here?

    Drivers have to be Dx12 compatible too and also the software/games be written for it, Without all of that, there's no use for Dx12 (or any other for that matter). It will probably take long time for games to be made to use Dx12.

    Also don't forget video card has to support DX12 mine says DX12 in DXDIAG but i have a supported video card with updated drivers for it to run, mine when i first installed it yesterday said like yours did i updated graphics driver and new firmware from my card manufacture and now i have dx 12.

    Yeah that too. Some claim to be Dx12 ready or have only partial compliance. From AMD, only Rx 3xx are made with Dx12 in mind.
    Dx12 is also supposed to help with shifting and sharing graphics load with CPU.
