Shall I take the AHCI or the SCU driver ?

You can install then uninstall the IRST support software which should leave behind the IRST driver you need for speedy access - iaStorA.sys in my case.

Asus Consumer Boards do not use the Intel RSTe Drivers ( 3.x,4.x5.x Series ) only their Workstation (Enterprise) Boards do eg the WS Series. You can check this by checking the Intel OROM (bios) version in the Main Bios , it is likely a 14 Series OROM on X99, so the best Driver is also a 14 Series one. While you can install the RSTe Drivers on the secondary Controller (sSATA) it will cause the RST Software to stop working , at least that is what happens on my Asus X99A-II Board , so I just leave it with the Standard Sata AHCI M$ Driver.

My Primary Controller is currently using Intel's 14.8.18.1066 obtained from WinRaid

It overwhelms me quite a bit !

As I'm frightning that my machine could not boot after having updated the driver I'm checking just to be sure...

My system runs presently good.
But it indicates that the Intel RST Service is not running.
And sometimes, it fails when booting the first time and indicates that is has to repair the system (with a iaStorB.sys reference).

Here a short report of my system:

It is best according to WinRaid to run a Driver in the same Branch as the Intel Raid Bios ( OROM) present in the Main Bios of the Motherboard and this is what I do. I would think your uses a 14 Series OROM so either the 14.6 or 14.8 version would be best depending on the OROM Version. ( look in the Main bios to check)

If you Run the Intel Version 3,4,or 5 Version RSTe Driver on the secondary controller (sSATA) the IRST Service usually fails to load , it is what happens on my board (X99A-II) so I just use the Standard Microsoft AHCI Driver for it since the secondary controller does not do RAID anyway and typically I use it for the DVD Drive and a HDD not in a RAID Array anyway , eg a Backup Drive for Macrium currently.

Do I have to go into the bios at boot time to look for the OROM Version or is it possible to get this info from a running OS (using e.g. HWiNfO) ?

How can I know in the device manager which is the primary controller and which is the second one ?

Its the easiest way , if you are in full UEFI Mode , if you are using CSM you can also use Ctrl+I (i) to enter the Intel Raid Bios but it may show thw OROM Number at Boot in CSM too, if so you can use the Pause button to write it down.

No sure if HWInfo64 will show the OROM number or not but I haven't noticed it , AIDA may if you have it ?

As my OROM (Option ROM ?) is 13.1.0.2126, according to WinRaid I have downloaded the 64 bits Intel RST(e) AHCI/Raid Driver v 13.1.0.1058 (best matching Intel RAID ROM/EFI BIOS modules : v13.1.0.2126).

I could not run the "Intel RSTe Drivers & Software Set v13.1.0.1058 WHQL.rar" because it gives me an error !

I then tried to install only the driver from the device manager (64bit Intel RSTe AHCI & RAID drivers v13.1.0.1058 WHQL.rar), but the system says that is has already a newer version (the one that is installed is 15.8.1.1007) and so it did not install it. Can I bypass it ?

It seems that this could be interesting for me : on my secondary controller (Intel C600+/C220+ series chipset sSATA AHCI Controller), the driver is iaStorB.sys.

As you describe it, I have no RAID on this controller, RST service fails to load and sometimes, I get a blue screen at boot time with an error related to iaStorB.sys (Driver IRQL not less or equal).

I would like to do the same as you, i.e. install the Standard Microsoft AHCI Driver. How can I do that ?
