A very good morning and everything looks bright to celebrate. So I shall go back by 5 years and a few days and do it @ Royal Albert Hall, London .

The mesmerising Shreya Ghoshal in her debut performance at Albert Hall, London. May 6, 2013 singing Le Ja Le Ja

Getting into business, your drive luckily is an MBR drive and all the partitions are intact. Now rerun Partition Recovery Wizard > Quick Scan and in the Partitions found Window, put a tick mark in the square by clicking on it to select all the partitions . The preview map at the bottom of the Window should now show your drive as it was before ( without any unallocated space). For the record post a screenshot. Click on Finish and it should take you to the main screen. If the partitions do not have a drive letter, assign a drive letter to all the partitions - except the first FAT32 System partition ( @Bree, am I right?) { Right click on each partition> Change Letter } Now go to the top Menu Bar and click on Apply.

When PW completes the operations your drive and its contents should be accessible. ( If not, I shall delete the celebratory preamble .)

When accessible, I would advise you to forthwith copy all the important data you may not want to lose to another drive.

You could now put the drive back into the laptop. Will it be bootable? I would think it should be. If not, the ball is back into Bree's court - to make it bootable. I came in here only as a substitute .

I shall now go back into watch mode. Good luck.

    Hi Jumanji

Many thanks, I'll need to follow your instructions on Saturday (my nephew taken possession of his laptop which he loaned to me) . But as soon as he returns I'll be on the case. I'm posting this from my Nokia 530!! Unless the original error at boot clears up, I will still have an issue. But lets see on Saturday.

Correct. That's the System partition. It is used to boot the OS but never has a drive letter, nor is there anything on that partition that you'd want to keep. In order to boot on an MBR system it must be marked as Active, so you may well need to do that.

When accessible, I would advise you to forthwith copy all the important data you may not want to lose to another drive.

The First place to look for your files would be the OS partition (C: as it would have been) in the Users folder. For each account there is a username folder with Documents, Pictures, etc. sub-folders. Also check for any wanted files that may have been put on the Data partition.

You may need to use administrator rights to grant yourself permission to see all the files. If so, don't take ownership, just add yourself to the permissions. Taking ownership would cause problems if ever we get this drive to boot up again.

You could now put the drive back into the laptop. Will it be bootable? I would think it should be. If not, the ball is back into Bree's court - to make it bootable. I came in here only as a substitute
Thank you for joining in. I've (fortunately) not had to rescue lost partitions or data so had little experience to fall back on. The Fat32 System partition must be marked Active in order for there to be a chance of booting. I expect the chances are good.

    Hi Bree & Jumanji

Still haven't got access to laptop; hopefully sometime today.
If not, might have to go to the library Tuesday / Wednesday.
Although 1 hour sessions are restrictive.

Sorry to know that you underwent a medical procedure. After the lumbar puncture prcedure :

"Plan to rest. Don't participate in strenuous activities the day of your procedure. You may return to work if your job doesn't require you to be physically active. Discuss your activities with your doctor if you have questions.
Take a pain medication. A nonprescription pain-relieving medication that contains acetaminophen can help reduce a headache or back pain."
    - Mayo Clinic

Well, I do not know what is that 16MB Unallocated partition. May be specific to the OEM/OS install.

You have selected the partitions by putting tick marks into the squares. Double click on each selected partition to explore the content. If you are happy with accessing the data, then click on Finish, assign drive letters and click on apply. This will rewrite the MBR code and the partition tables to sector 0 and then you will be able to access the drive and all data on it. Refer to Bree's post #24 on the specifics.

Whether it will be bootable? hmmm... I cant say since I had never dealt with an UFFI/ Windows 10 OS/OEM install disk. I have no Windows 10 system to play around and check.

Once you recover the data, will it not be possible for you to reinstall Windows 10 in case the drive is not bootable?

I shall wait for Bree's/ other Windows 10 experts' opinion before you go ahead with the above plan.

What make and model was the PC this disk was being used in? The reason I ask is that the 16MB 'unallocated' space suggests that this disk was originally partitioned with a UEFI/GPT layout, not a legacy MBR. That 'space' looks suspiciously like the Microsoft Reserved Partition. This Microsoft article explains the layout of a gpt disk.

    Microsoft® reserved partition (MSR)
Beginning in Windows 10, the size of the MSR is 16 MB.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/win...ive-partitions

Will it be bootable if you hit 'finish'? No, not if it was originally a gpt disk.

Will you be able to recover the data? Certainly, converting from gpt to mbr only changes the partition table, not the partitions themselves.

If the partitions are recovered as MBR, can it be changed to GPT later? Yes, MiniTools Partition Wizard can do that, but it would be better to recover the partitions with a GPT layout in the first place. That would enable MiniTools to recover all five partitions (MBR is limited to four).

I too do not have a UEFI/GPT system to compare with, all mine are legacy MBR. From what I know, it may well be possible to repair the disk and make it bootable - but ONLY if the correct partition style is selected. @NavyLCDR or others may be able to offer advice.
