Device Manager Shows Incorrect Device ID

Hia. I recently installed a third SSD to my computer ( a Crucial MX500 2TB). Everything went smoothly, the drive behaves normal and everything seems good, however this time something weird happened with the identity on the device, it shows an incorrect model and ID in Windows Device Manager: CT512MX100. I tried using various programs to identify it, but they all gathered the info from Windows, which is not right. So I downloaded the program that came with it -- Crucial Storage Tool -- this time with success: CT2000MX500. What's odd about this is that it seems to have taken my previous SSDs identity 4 years ago, which was a 512GB SSD from Crucial actually, and applied it to this one. I can't figure out why Windows would do this and if this is something I should be worried about? If anyone have any input on this that would be great.

I'm afraid if I try to release it from the device manager several games that I have installed on it will get pathing issues. I tried to click on update driver but it says I'm already on the latest driver for it.

As long as same letter is retained they'll find it.

The name is just for display purposes - it shouldn't have any functional impact since all drives use the same built-in driver.

The name is stored in the registry - Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\SCSI\ . My guess is that your old drive and new drive have the same device ID so Windows assumes they are the same.

I tried uninstalling the drive from Device Manager and after rebooting the name got restored. So that's worth a try if it bothers you.

Ok, what will happen if I uninstall it? Sorry, I've never done this before. I need a step-by-step guide as to how and where I can uninstall my drive, and I also need to know for certainty that all my games in my Steam library will get pathing issues or if they need to be re-downloaded or not because I have over 500GB of data on it and it will take me a day to download them all over again.

This is a bug with intel sata drivers when u change a hard drive with another drive.
Uninstall it . Path finding problems will u have if u change the letter of the drive.
And if it change u can change back in 30 seconds.
the only thing that u must do before unistall is to close-exit the steam launcher.

also it will remember all your older hard drives so if after restart don't have the right name for ssd uninstall again until it recognizes it.
