    Win 10 & mouse

I'm not sure if this is actually a Win 10 problem or not but I have a Microsoft mouse and the scroll wheel in the middle of the mouse clicks side to side as well as forward and back. What is this side to side motion supposed to do? I can't see anything that happens when I use it. Various sales people have told me that it is a back and forth between web pages and many other things that it doesn't do. Help, please.

    Thanks in advance... Bob

Browser back and forward is usually the default for MS mice but in your MS Mouse settings, you can choose among different actions.

I couldn't find anything regarding that (or the supposedly programmable buttons on the side). Is there a file I need to download or something?

Do I have to "install" the mouse? I just plugged it in.

Center click button is most likely the horizontal scroll control. Not vertical side bar, the horizontal one sometimes at the bottom of the screen if the screen is too wide to fit. Find a web page or Explorer window that would show that horizontal scroll bar at the bottom, and try it.

Also, the button may click straight down. That could open a link in a new tab.

Pressing the wheel side to side/left to right provides Horizontal scrolling. Look in Mouse settings for Horizontal scrolling in the Wheel pane below where the number of lines can be set for the vertical scrolling. Not all mice have that feature even though the setting may appear. The ability usually appears only when the horizontal scroll bar is showing on a page/program. It may be called a Tilt Wheel mouse.

Mouse model # regarding programming the buttons is 5000.

The wheel tilting has been solved, side to side will move a web page side to side if it is too wide to display in it's window.

Plugging it in is installing it.
