Event ID 7 Bad Block & iaStorA resets but Chkdsk ok..

Not finding threads that help me much with this. I have a Toshiba laptop with a conventional mechanical drive. I guess it is running about as well as it is capable of given the apps etc that are installed and the slow speed of the 5400rpm drive. Previously it had trouble because the user was in the habit of shutting it off after each short-term use, so it had an old botched upgrade from February and nothing since. All that is solved, but....

in the Event log are hundreds of Event ID 7 Bad Block detected entries, and dozens of IastorA "reset to Device\RaidPort0 issued" Event ID 129 entries. when I look at Disk Management, it shows the drive "Healthy", and after running chkdsk /f twice, there was nothing remarkable there in the log. I ran Crystal and it shows a warning due to abnormal Current Pending Sector count and Reallocated Sectors Count. Toshiba's own system health monitor shows the disk "Healthy"... I'm not convinced it is actually testing the drive.

Any guidance would be appreciated. If there actually is one or more "Bad Blocks", why is chkdsk not showing a remap to work around the bad blocks? Is there another utility I should try? By itself, the iastor reset error

The answer is simple once a bad block is written to the disk chkdsk doesnt check that anymore so it doesnt report it. If there are a lot of bad blocks its going to fail sooner than later soa new drive is in order and backup data ASAP. It important you dont copy this disk to a new one or it will copy the bad blocks to the new drive unless special procedure is done. You can go to the makers site and don load their specif test for their drives free

a) Full generic scan

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
chkdsk /x /f /r /v
This may take many hours so run overnight.

C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /x /f /r /v

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another

Type: Y
reboot

Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Copy and paste > notepad > post a one drive or drop box share link into the thread

Hard drives can work a long time even with bad blocks.
Some people use them until they fail.
Others will replace hard drives to get better performance using a SSD.
If you have a backup image you can tolerate most problems.

Chkdsk scans the file system on the disk. Sections in which it scans it can fix and restore the file structure.
When viewing the reports it may indicate how it modified the bitmap.
There are multiple switches that can be used with chkdsk.
