If the ram doesn't work, try to borrow a PSU from someone to test it. If you can't find anyone, go over to @paulpicks21 house and take his PSU out of his computer and try it. Besides, if he was a real friend he would pull his PSU and bring it to you.

I could pull the psu out of my Mrs pc but its a lot of hassle lol. If the ram doesn't sort it I'll just return it and buy a psu to test

I had a look in the bios/advanced usb config and there is no option for XHCI mode.
Even if there was , it would not help , at least , it didn't in my case, the only fix was not to have the offending USB Device plugged in at Boot Time.

There are a few YTube videos and other reports on the ROG Forums etc

you don't need to watch this Video ( 14min. rant) but check out the Comments

in another video in the comments it also mentions this issue on Z97 platform but I have no experience with it.

It was worth a try. The only usb devices I have connect are my mouse, keyboard and headset. I'll have a read through the comments on the video though. Cheers!

Sounds crazy but remove the headset. If it was me and there was a PS/2 port, I'd even try to recreate the fault with no USB devices attached at all. You could also install Teamviewer so if you can hit the Welcome Screen you can control with no devices connected whatsoever. Just out of interest, query the SMART on SSD / HDD and see if there any 1) Reallocated Sectors 2) Pending reallocated sectors 3) Command Timeouts 4) UDMA CRC timeout errors. A moot point if your troubles arise with no storage attached of course!

Also, is it 1803 Windows 10? See if you have the issues under an earlier flavour of W10 or try W7

I've tried without my mouse/headset and used different keyboards, only os drive connected and still get the same results. Smart stuff on boot drive is shown in the pic.

The only consistent thing about all of this is its inconsistency

I've literally just updated to 1803 20 minutes ago but the issue has been there in the all builds of win 10 tried.

It's a noodle scratcher all right, dude! The SMART looks fine to me. The UDMA CRC timeout errors can be indicative of a PSU issue but once enumerated are stored forever and just 1 ain't no thing in isolation.

Dynamic faults or inconsistent faults CAN be indicative of either RAM, CPU or cooling issues in my experience. As in faulty cells in the RAM matrices, badly seated CPU or bad pad electrical contact. As regards cooling the "Delta t" as in the rate of change in temperature can be an issue i.e.if a rapid uplift of temperature upsets the C states of the CPU and PCH or whatever the kids are calling it these days. IMC integrated memory controller on the CPU die I believe.

As I said in an earlier POST, I had similar weird issues which boiled down to a damaged USB port causing a short which caused random BIOS flashbacks to the backup BIOS (I kid you not). A drop of metallic thermal paste shorting 2 metal contacts was another and a loose screw shorting was yet another, lol.

I would CATEGORICALLY test with a known good stick of RAM at SPD in slot 1 only with a known working PSU on a barebones set up taking ESD precautions is a MUST.

Beyond that I'm as baffled as everyone in this thread, I'm afraid. :-(

It took me half an hour to wedge the side panel back on mine last time due to my rather bad cable management. Not taking that sucker off again for a long time!

Well, it would give you a chance to help a friend and also clean up your crappy cable management. You know, Master Computer Builder that you claim to be.
