Internal SATA drive show on Device Manager But not on Explorer listing

I used up all the allowed space in the title there - couldn't put a question mark on the end.

    :)

Wonder why I can't see the WD hard drive I just hooked up to a SATA port on my H170 board?

There are currently two seagate drive SATA connected and the DVD drive. And an external Seagate on USB.

I put the WD in and I can see it in device manager but nowhere else.

I have a couple of screenshots:

    Can anyone help?

How about Disk Management, can you see it there ?
Look also in it's properties in Device manager > Populate. Should show total bytes including all partitions.

While you answer CountMike's queries, I have some more queries and suggestions.

It is a 1TB WD Black internal HDD. Right?

"Wonder why I can't see the WD hard drive I just hooked up to a SATA port on my H170 board?"

Nowhere have you mentioned whether it is an old drive or a new drive and whether it has any data on it.

If an old drive, where was this WD HDD before? Was it working in its previous abode?

What is the necessity of plugging it in into this "My Pc" now? ( Are you pulling out and pushing in Internal HDDs
as if those are removable drives?)

When you do post the screenshot of Windows Disk Management, please safely remove all other external HDDs/Flash drives/USB Hubs/ Card Readers from the USB ports so that what we see is only the internal drives.

Please follow the guidelines here to take the Windows Disk Management screenshot. Disk Management - How to Post a Screenshot of

Also upload the screenshots to Ten Forum servers so that those can be seen in your post itself as in

device manager is where i saw it in the first place, as i said at the time. populate doesn't complete. it shows the size of the disk, 1 tera, but doesn't show a drive number. it's a black 1 tera wd. it is fairly new. it should have data on it. the old computer it belonged to died. what else did you want to know.... ah that's about it.... i've put the images in the post... next screenshot if there is any more i'll detach the usb drives... what difference does that make ?

    Here's another shot from today

Anyone got any ideas about what one should do when this kind of thing presents itself?

You need to run DISK MANAGEMENT ! There you can right click on it and create a simple volume. That will Initialize the volume.

I ran DISK MANAGEMENT and the only option seems to be to delete a volume:

I might say that I do get the feeling you perhaps find it a little exasperating answering my queries? If that is the case please excuse yourself from doing so. I am happy to await the services of someone else perhaps not so stressed by my importuning - or failing that I'm happy for the thing to go unanswered... there are other avenues...

    just saying....

Judging by all your posts I have a feeling that there's something really wrong with disk itself. Maybe you could try Recuva Recuva - Free Download to try to save data if possible before it goes all bad.

That's a great idea, Mike, and I've got Recuva, I think, waiting to be used. But first I've got to be able to see the drive. :)

Is disk0 meant to be a DATA drive?. If so, it has got a strange partition scheme (as if it was an earlier bootable OS disk). Try recovering what's inside it and repartition it from scratch. Also, as someone suggested above, try checking disk health first too.

There's nothing wrong with the disk. For some reason when you connected it, there' no Drive letter assigned.

Open Admin command prompt (Win+X->Command Prompt(Admin)) and type:

    diskpart
    select disk 0
    select partition 1
    assign
    inactive
    exit

The disk should be visible now.
