Thanks for your response. My BIOS has no newer version. The 4TB drive works very well with Win 7 and Win 8.1, but when I install it in a Win 10 machine, no joy! Disk Management hangs endlessly and can't find it.
Same for a 2TB drive I also tried in this machine.
All drives 1TB and older for me. My Paragon drive management can't even find then. Had a drive slightly under 1 Tb that showed up in "System" and on Paragon but 1 Tb is a nogo. 3 different drive manufacturers, 2 PCs.

I just fought a similar problem, hard drive showed up in disk manager(correct file size, but no file system or drive letter associated) and could not use the drive and nowhere did I find the easy solution that fixed it for me...

Uninstall paragon hfs+. Download it again(even if it's the same version, i'm on 9.1) Reinstall paragon hfs+.

I think what this does is get rid of the crappy windows 10 drivers and uses the Seagate ones. I'm not 100% sure but after 3 days of reading stories of people formatting/ buying new hard drives and transferring I thought I would try a few things myself. BTW my seagate backup plus for mac is formatted as an NTFS, which is why i thought doing what I did was stupid.

    UNEXPECTED SOLUTION!

I was unable to get my desktop or my laptop to recognize an external samsung dvd player. It showed up in the device manager in the section for usb devices but had the yellow triangle/exclamation point. A pop up window also said the device was unrecognizable. I couldn't successfully find or update the driver for it.

I tried running the troubleshooting wizard to no avail, tried adding the line to regedit that I have seen suggested a couple places and also tried rebooting several times.

I wanted to try again a week or so later but the cable was misplaced. My son had it and said he borrowed it for an external hard drive but couldn't get the hard drive recognized on his win10 pc.

I found another y-split cable in the house (for an Amazon basic external dvd player) and wa-lah, the external samsung dvd drive and the Amazon basic were both recognizable. (So I presume my son's hard drive will also now work with this cable.)

The non-functioning cable had worked with other operating systems but not with Windows 10. So I ordered a couple new Y cables from Amazon (third party brand).

    Lost photos!

I'm going through the same thing. I upgraded to Win 10 on the 27th of last month right after I uploaded 11 days worth of vacation photos to a segmented 8 TB hard drive. It was working fine before the upgrade but now Win 10 sees it as unallocated. I've taken it in to a shop to have it scanned but they didn't do the job right and want to charge us another $300. No thanks. I just need to recover about 150GB of .jpg and RAW images. Any good advice on how to recover them is greatly appreciated as I'm overwhelmed by the sheer number of ways to do it. All data is on the same hard drive but Windows took away the largest allocated section which used to be labeled H and now lists it as unallocated and I can't access it. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just upgraded to Windows 10 as I planned to use the weekend to sort out any issues I might encounter during the upgrade. Well boy did I ever. My Seagate 3TB drive decided it no longer wanted to be recognized by Windows anymore. It shows up as a failed/deactivated drive in Disk Management as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/5EOU4Jf.png It also shows up in Speccy as a physical drive. I currently have 2TB of data on there (including an OS image I did just before the upgrade as an extra prep step), so reformatting the volume is not an option until I get the data off.

Any advice on how to recover my data?
Pls keep the seagate external driver updated on your machine with latest one. After that the machine starts detecting the external drive.... No need of chkdsk OR formatting OR anything else... worked well for me.....
