Updated to Version 1803, HDMI audio on TV

Hey, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Basically I use Windows 10 64-bit and I just got done with the update to Version 1803. I often hook my laptop up to my LG TV via HDMI but now the TV audio no longer works, though the PC speakers are fine.

My laptop is an HP Envy TouchSmart, I recently reinstalled the IDT Audio driver (sp63555.exe) and that has the speakers working fine but it won't detect the TV speakers. Tried looking online but couldn't find anything that worked.

Let me know if more details are needed or if this is in the wrong places.

Try to rollback the drivers.

Connect the HDMI cable. First, r-click sound icon in tray/Sounds. Check that Display Audio exists and select as default while playing to TV. (see screener)
If that fails, try Settings/Update & Security/Troubleshoot/Get up and running/Playing Audio.

I don't know how to rollback the drivers, just the Windows 10 version, which I've done before but would rather not do again (it'll just push it on me later anyway).

I'll try the device thing later, since Display Audio doesn't show now.

Okay, just tried this, Display Audio or anything mentioning the TV isn't on the list:



And the troubleshooter only had options for the same two devices in the tray before:

Check if the volume control doesn't stay at PC volume instead of TV volume control (scroll up or down).
About the only issue we have when switching from monitor 1 to 2.

I'm sorry Mike, I don't really understand what you're suggesting to do here.

Also, an update, tried restarting with the HDMI connected and it had the red x near the sound tray icon and no sound, troubleshooting came up with this:



I tried each of these options in sequence, each asking me to restart my computer and none of them doing anything after I did.

After those, I ran the IDT installer thing again and restarting after that put me back into my starting situation (laptop speakers work but doesn't pick up TV speakers), restarting again didn't do anything further.

The fact that you only have two recognized sound devices is troubling. You can see that I have numerous and they're not forgotten. First off, have you tried a different HDMI cable, some don't work on all devices ?

If the IDT AND the stock HD Audio drivers have problems, I would go to Device Manager/Sound, video and game controllers/IDT High Definition Audio Device and r-click 'Uninstall device'. Restart and let WU fetch best match.

If a diff cable and the newly fetch driver don't work; again, in Device Manager, r-click the HD Audio Device/Update driver/ Browse my computer for driver software/Let me pick ***/check 'Show compatible hardware'. At bottom of list, choose 'High Definition Audio Device' to install generic MS codecs. Restart and see if basic driver will work w/o Troubleshooter generating errors. If so, forget the IDT one. I don't have a different cable to use, this one worked fine on previous versions and the picture's showing up fine, so I figure it's not the cable that's causing problems.

I'll try your driver suggestion, but I need to ask, how do I get Windows Update to "fetch best match" as you mention on the first step? Just want to be sure what to do before I go messing around with it is all.

After you uninstall and restart, it's automatic when there is NO driver present. It's like installing Windows on a clean drive, it will install basic drivers to get up and going, then WU will look for better on it's next launch at restart.
