    Use for old SSD

I have a new computer coming with an SSD and HDD. I have an old 256GB SSD from the old system that is in good condition and I have an external box with a SATA/USB connection. Is there any good use for the old SSD?

What size is the new SSD? if it's like a 500gb.. you should consider using the 256gb for windows .. should increase load times for Windows and some other programs if you install them on the ssd.

If you had a desktop PC I would install the spare SSD and use it for Reflect system image backups. Otherwise, buy a cheap USB disc caddy with a SATA interface. Install the spare SSD in that and use the drive for data transfer and backups.

    Here's my setup:

I have a fast m.2 drive for the OS and software only, I have a second 850 Pro program and browser cache such as Chrome and Spotify. All my user files are on it as well.

If you can fit new drive internally, I would use second drive for temporary files, including pagefile and hibernation file. That way if it fails, it has minimal impact on your system.

If you cannot, just use it as an external usb3 drive

    Hi there

USB3/2-->SATA connector + SSD very nice fast external drive. USB3 connector better of course. Use it for example as storing VM's on - very decent performance for virtual machines stored on external SSD whatever platform you use for virtual machine software (usually VBOX/VMWARE/HYPER-V).

If you don't use VM's use for any sort of video editing scratch files (photoshop too etc). If you've really nothing else then as an incredibly fast backup for your windows system -- decent machine + external SSD connected via USB3->SATA adapter or even direct SATA if you have an external SATA port will back up an average Windows installation in about 5 mins !! (Free Macrium).

    Cheers
