iPod not recgonized after version 1803 update

Updated Windows to version 1803. iPod not longer being recognized by windows. Window says 'USB device not recognized'.

I think my iPod has failed. Tried my other new iPod and everything works fine.

Switch Ipod off completely.
Switch on again.
Plug into a USB 2 port (if you still have any of those on the machine)
see if computer recognized device.

Sometimes the chips in these things - especially older hardware aren't recognized by USB 3 ports even when USB 3 port says Backward compatible with USB 2 devices. If Ipod is really old it might even need USB 1.1 -- USB 2 ports will handle that though.

Another idea is to plug Ipod into computer and re-boot computer.

Things like ipods which don't have any moving parts (other than the human wearer !) don't really wear out or break -- it's possible but quite rare -- even on cheap devices the probable MTBF (Mean Time before Failure -- sorry I'm am Engineer so used to these terms) is likely to be longer than it will take current millennials to collect their state Pensions.

Another possibility is can you connect the Ipod to a smart phone and copy the music - USB connections on phones might be able to read the device.
