Tried plugging the PC directly into the wall without the UPS, no change at all.

PSU is definitely in the on position, orange network light goes if I turn it off at the back there, and when I shut down to test something new one of my steps is to turn it off at the back there.

I have multiple 8 pin motherboard leads in the box so I tried routing another one of them around and that didn't change the results either, I really hate the 8 pin from this modular EVGA, they are 4+4 and they never sit flush against each other, they're absolutely flush up against the motherboards connecter though so it must be plugged in, but it just really wish it was one solid block.

Tried reseating the 24 pin again just whilst I was there anyway, no change.

Tried taking out 3 of the ram sticks and changing what fourth one was in the primary slot, no change.

I think during one of my tests I saw the GPU fan move a tiny amount, but not sure.

I still feel like the PSU and UPS work, they;ve just both been sitting there since they both successfully turned on my old AGP computer so I don't think we need to try this thing https://www.silverstonetek.com/downl...%20Clip-EN.pdf

I think i've done a lot of tests with cables, what's the next best guess? Motherboard is DoA, or the Processor took too many volts or the cables from my front panel are bust?. Or something else i'm not thinking of?

I just looked up how much it would cost to get the cheapest i3-8100 to test if it's the processor and it's £107.99, absolutely crazy for something i'd have no use for after.

edit: did a loose screw check too, didn't find any

Well if you are sure PSU is turning on, or can turn on, I would check CPU. I know it's a pain. Did it seat right?

I very much doubt switch on front panel.

There might be a speaker header on board. Do you have a little speaker you could connect to see if it is issuing a POST error?

I thought that was a brilliant idea, free of cost and no need to wait for a delivery so I took the CPU cooler off and had a good look to see if the CPU was seated right, no luck i'm afraid, with the two indents at the top and the gold triangle this-way-up printed in the corner it was easy to see that it was sitting in the right place snug.

I attempted to boot it straight after setting it all up again just to see if would work anyway but it didn't.

The friend of mine who was going to help with this finally turned up three weeks later and he was with me on chat while I was doing some of this and after that last point of checking he suggested the proccesor might be dead, and when I said about buying a new one (Amazon £429) he suggested instead of doing that and trying to fix it myself, getting a barebones prebuilt computer with just a I-5 8400 in it (that comes to around £540) and then just slotting in all the easy bits into it such as hard drives, ram and graphics card from my personal items.

It was intresting, spend £429, next day delivery, if it works get a refund on my broken 8700k and i'm up and running the tommorow.
Or spend £540, takes 1-3 weeks to deliver, get a whole bunch of spare parts (PSU, Case, Cheap stick of DDR4 ram) They provide labour, parts and courier if anything goes wrong with their parts. Try and get a refund on my 8700k (but never really know if it was broken) and end up with a worse processor for encoding, they do a 8700k but that bumps the prices up to £724.

I feel like on the one hand we're close to solving it already there aren't many parts left, and I don't think i'll need all that garentees for parts and things now that I got the UPS, but on the other hand having a company be responcible for any hiccups is handy as I had this stuff go wrong for me just a few months after buying and all of these problems would have been covered under that protection.

I was hoping you would say theres just a couple of bits left and to do it manually, we've pretty much replaced everything but the processor and without a working proccessor there's no command to the power supply to start up the computer right?

Waiting another 1-3 weeks for a delivery ontop of all this time is a bit daunting.

I know you can short PSU to turn on and some MB's have that on board Power switch but I don't think I've ever hear of the ability to run a MB with the brain.
