Slow shutdown one night and now a Disk is missing

Woops I think this second link isn't what you intended to link me as it's the same as the first one.
I made a nice new DVD from that tool in the first link to install this windows 10 install that i'm using now, do I need to make a USB one instead or will my newly burned DVD still be ok?

Once the guide link is posted i'll see if I can spot what I did wrong last time just out of curiosity.

Do I have to shrink the drive down? i'd have to assigned a different drive letter to the new partition and change my install directory for every thing I install right? no more just clicking next to install.

Any recommendation about a video recording workhorse drive replacement? or is 2tb barracuda drives still fairly standard?

That's really strange, to retrace my steps would be:

Put together PC with only one drive (Samsung evo, not new, still has old install of W10 on it)
before it boots press del to enter bios
go to advanced > secure erase+
drive is erased
go to advanced > toggle W10 WHQL mode from off (default) to on
save changes and exit bios
windows installs to 20% then restarts
windows installs to 70% then restarts
windows is "taking a moment to set things up"
restart manually to go into the bios to set the ram to the 3000mhz it's rated for rather than the default
go into advanced to turn fast booting on and notice that W10 WHQL mode has turned itself from on back to off all by itself.

I feel like I didn't even touch anything and it just went back to whql off, the only other thing I could have done was go into the bios during the 20% restart and the 70% restart but I really really didn't want to interrupt the install process.

maybe it's because I didn't set the sata mode, I remember from when I had IRST or something (the one where you have a tiny SSD as a fast cache and a regular HDD linked together and windows learned what files you used most often and put them on the SSD cache?) you could set the sata to be either AHCI, Raid or a third option, and if you set the a different one after you installed windows you couldn't boot until you set it back again.
I didn't check to see if it was on AHCI before I installed windows, all I did was turn windows 10 whql and install.

It's quite late at night here so I'll do my reinstall tomorrow, but I was just wondering what benefits i'll see from being on the WHQL mode? Initially I was just doing it because I knew I wouldn't need support for versions earlier than 10 and that's still true, but I was just wondering what I was doing it for when it means I have to do a reinstall to get there haha. Less load times? Less space used on the boot part? or what am I looking forward to?

Something else was wrong with my computer so I didn't order the drive yet or reinstall windows on UEFI and it seems like it's another drive on it's way out.

sometimes when I interact with my storage drive (G: , another barracuda or the Seagate equivalent ) the file doesn't open, windows explorer crashes making the background black, making the task bar black and the only things that work are things I already have open. If i'm lucky enough to have another file explorer open I can still go to other drives and even wake up my external usb drive, but if I try to do anything on G: that window is now dead too. Using task manager during this time to try and Shutdow/Log off/Switch user just causes the PC to hang indefinitely doing that tast until I press the reset button on the PC or turn it off at the plug.

I was going to run checkdisk with some commands I saw on the internet ( chkdsk G: /f /r /x ) but then it said at the end of the article that you could lose data and to back it all up first.

Restarted the computer (twice) and the drive was missing from the list and the computer took 4 minutes to shut down or start up again and even then still missing, went to sleep for the night.

Here I am in the morning posting this and the drive is there, I ran seatools and got this message "short DST - Fail" and started to back up all my files onto another drive.

Any ideas what to do next? once my files are backed up this seatools has an option for fix all fast, fix all long and other tests, but I could also run that checkdisk.

Like I said I really seem to be unlucky having two drives blow out.

I ran the cmd.exe as admin and typed WMIC diskdrive get status, size, model



Did I do that right?

I did a SMART check on the drive in Seatools and it said "Smart - Pass" (100%)

Power seems fine, no blackouts or brownouts, I looked into getting a UPS but the prices were completely unreasonable over twice as much as the prices in America when I looked, and can't import one because of the different plug sockets wattages and volts and such.

I'm going to try the fix long like you suggested, wish me luck. Should I do a checkdisk with those commands I found after this?

At this stage, I would think that there is something seriously wrong with your system.

Until you get it right:

As for the two hard disk drives, I would now seriously consider putting those into another working system ( one at a time) and check what happens. We will really know whether those got screwed up.
