I am also adding a shot of This PC. It shows the old driving listed twice as system reserved and drive E. I thank you for the assistance you are providing.

Thanks for the screenshots. There's nothing in Disk Management to suggest anything is wrong.
It's odd that CrystalDisk couldn't see the drive while Disk management can, though. At you sure it was plugged in before opening CrystalDisk Info? Try again, perhaps with the drive in another usb port if you are accessing it using an external drive enclosure.
Have you tried chkdsk /f yet?
PS: if you want to stop the System Reserved partition appearing as D: then just remove its drive letter using Disk Management.
I did and I got a box that said disk check cant be performed because windows can't access the disk. I also shut everything down and restarted and tried crystaldisk again with the same results as before.
Is this drive in an external usb enclosure? If so, do you have access to another PC you could try it on?
I'm leaning towards a hardware fault, either the drive itself or (if you use one) the drive enclosure or its cable.
it i not in an enclosure. it is connected by a cord. I can try it on another laptop. It has done the same thing to me on the other laptop as far as coming up in This PC as system restored and E. I have no problem trying it again though.
it is an HDD
As I said, that is correct behaviour, there are two normal ntfs partitions and they will each get a drive letter. The fact that System Reserved is not normally accessible when booted in the original PC is neither here nor there, you get access to it whether you need it or not.
The Recovery Partition on the old drive is recognised as being special, so that didn't get assigned a drive letter.
I tried it on the other laptop again and get the same results. I will try a new cord or an enclosure for it. Will have to wait for Amazon as we live in a community that doesn't sell items of this nature. Thank you for the assistance.
