Microsoft 5050 Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Not Detected

    Hi,
Wireless Mouse and Keyboard 5050 not being detected. Can't re-install drivers as it says they are already on the system, but can't uninstall them either as they are not in my list of programs.
They are working...but I would like to be able to access the Mouse and Keyboard Centre program.
Also get an error saying it can't find MKCHelper.exe.
    Anyone have any ideas, please?

Borrow or otherwise obtain a different mouse and keyboard. Make sure they work. Disconnect the MS components. Go into Device Manager and uninstall the drivers (click the "Delete the driver software for this device" checkbox). Reboot your PC. Plug in the MS components, then select "Scan for hardware changes" in the DevMgr Action menu. If you're lucky, the OS will install the drivers you need for the MS components. OTOH, you can visit the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard center, and grab the drivers you need, then install them manually. Then you can try out your MS components. If they work, you can return your borrowed "other mouse and keyboard."

    Many thanks for the reply.

You're welcome. If you're lucky, my advice will actually help. If not, things will get more interesting, but we'll figure something out.
Best of luck to you when you have time to try this out...

    Hi,
I have a new Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard 2000 now.
Tried what you suggested with an old keyboard, connected the new one and it's a bit better.
I stll get an error saying the 'MKCHelper.exe' file is missing.
I still can't uninstall/reinstall Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Centre, as it says it is on the PC, but is not listed in the list of software to uninstall.
When I slow the wheel scroll speed down, it works fine, but when I restart the PC I have to do it again, as it speeds up so much I can't control it.

Might try a third-party uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller (free version) will see it and help you get the M&K Center completely removed from your PC. After that, a reinstall might proceed successfully. Good luck. This is turning into the proverbial "snake pit" isn't it?

Ha! That's one way to fix the problem, for sure. Please mark this thread as solved (click the green Mark as Solved box at the top of this post's page), so that other users will understand the workaround you chose to solve the problem. Thanks!
And FWIW, we have no less than three active threads going right now (down to two, if you mark this solved) dealing with Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard driver-related issues. Very interesting -- especially to me, because I'm typing on an MS Comfort Curve 4000 right now as I respond to this post).
