LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller

Hi, I need help to solve an issue I have with my LSI 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller.

I noticed an exclamation mark in Device Manager next to my 1394 Host Controller and despite turning 1394 off in my BIOS it keeps coming back. I've also tried to disable and uninstall this device in Device Manager, with the same result, and when I try to update it I get an error (see screenshots below).

Translated from Dutch it says, A problem occurred installing driver files for your device.
Driver files have been found but an error occurred trying to install them.




Device doesn't start (Code 10). If you know who the manufacturer is of your device, you can visit their website support section to check if there are device driver updates available.

Don't know what the cause is.
My PC is up-to-date (OS, Drivers, important software) and otherwise i don't experience problems.

Tho I find it peculiar to see an error in Device Manager when that particular device is deliberately turned off in my BIOS. And before you ask, yes when I turn 1394 On in my BIOS I experience the same issue...

Hopefully there' someone reading this cry for help and can offer me adequate assistance.

First, that controller is for a firewire port. Do you have any firewire ports on that PC? In order to update that driver is has to be enabled first then let windows 10 try and update it for you.

If the PC in question is the one in your system specs.....it only has support for windows Vista and Windows 7. Even though you have windows 10 installed...you don't have any compatible drivers for it from HP. It is only using the generic windows 10 drivers which may or may not work. Which may be your root issue.

I can't seem to find a driver for it for your HP model. For the drivers under windows 7, there is not chipset driver but there is under Vista.

I honestly don't know. Before reporting my problem I read a bit about 1394/Firewire because I didn't know what it was, or does. I have no experience whatsoever, so I can't say if I have a Firewire port on my PC. I think not...

Yes my PC is the one mentioned in system specs, except that the latest OS Build is now 16299.248 instead of 125.
When I bought this PC Windows Vista was pre-installed and then later I bought a cheap Windows 7 version to benefit from the free upgrade to Windows 10 PRO. So yes it doesn't surprise me that HP doesn't offer any updates for this model, hence I probably don't have compatible drivers. Which indeed may be the cause.

I've had this problem for quite some time and looked at it when I had free time on my hands, and I do recall installing a 1394 Legacy driver, hoping that would help my cause, but it didn't.

Later on tonight I'll look into it and report back.

Before I go, one quick question...
Is it possible to uninstall that 1394 [...] driver, in case no solution is found?
I don't mean via the Properties menu of that driver, and then select uninstall, because I've tried that already and the next time I boot I still see an error (exclamation mark) in Device Manager, albeit that driver is supposed to be uninstalled already.

Well, I have to reboot, enable 1394 in my BIOS, but immediately after applying this fix the error in DM was gone!

Except for some recording studio interface units, I don't know of any current devices using FireWire. There were some older devices but most of them have newer models that are USB.

As to Firewire....it's just another type of connection/port. Usually it's associated with Apple product but then found it's way into the mainstream PC's. Here's a good read on the subject.
