Best way to disable internal card reader
I’m getting an issue where very occasionally windows won’t boot. It goes past post and then just sits on the ASUS logo. Where the dots at the bottom normally indicate the few secs of loading windows they will be missing. The remedy is easy as I just hit the reset button on my case and it will then be fine. I noted it doesn’t matter if it’s a cold boot or restart, happened in both scenarios. Fast boot is not a culprit as I always turn that off.
It it must be said this is very rare. I only noticed it starting after fall creators update. And it’s happens about 4 or 5 times since September. In that time I must of booted the machine over 200 times. I am wondering if the creators update is to blame and maybe it’ll go away when we reach the next spring creators. However I did consider the internal 52 in 1 card reader could be to blame. Basically it stopped working a few months ago. There is no exclamation mark in device manager on windows but it doesn’t read anything. No great drama as I barely use it and wish I’d never opted for it when configuring the machine. I remember once leaving a card in it and it prevented the machine booting (as it was failing) until I removed the card. It makes me think (although unlikely) it could be interfering with the boot process. So I thought it’s best disabled. I wish it was just an external one that could be easily removed.
i double checked the bios boot order and it is not on the list and the order of priority is all correct. A while back I even updated the bios to the latest available as it was quite out of date. But that made no difference as the problem has happened before and after. I do connect my pc to a ups but I don’t think it’s the problem as the issue is so rare and the ups is in good health and also happily supplying my monitor and also my Mac without anything like this. I think it’s a possible windows issue but the fact it’s so rare does puzzle me. I guess I worry most that it does this during a system restart to install updates (it never has so far) which is never good to interfere with
cheers
