    update drivers in device manager

I need to update drivers, audio, keyboard, and more.
Is it best to do this from device manager or elsewhere or not at all.

Hi, just wondering- why do you need to update drivers? Windows takes care of your normal set of drivers automatically.

Do you have a specific problem you are trying to solve in hoping to update drivers?

Note: we advise you do not use any 3rd party driver updater to update system drivers.

No problem, I thought 10 was updating drivers but they are not, no problems but most drivers need updating, I have a windows 7 that was built at shop, upgraded to 10, all is fine but drivers out of date by years.

    - Is Windows update working? Have a look at your Update History.

    but most drivers need updating,
    - just wondering what that's based on? As compared against what? Or is there some functional problem?

Of course you can use Device Manager to check for an update if you wish.

MS maintains your drivers routinely according to some huge database.

(A side-effect of this seems to be that when you upgrade to a new build, you may also find your driver version changes then (all drivers are replaced at that point). For a very few users, the then find the driver update causes a problem, and they have to use an older version - typically graphics).

    Mine's 6.0.1.7629 06/10/15
    - but that happens to be an exception- it's a driver I downloaded straight from Realtek. Why? 'cos my manufacturer's driver didn't offer any sound enhancements-including no graphic equaliser.

It so happens the generic one from Realtek does!

Ok- your build is one ahead of mine- I've not been offered the last Windows update. Hmm, should I be jealous?

I have always delayed doing any driver updates until last minute but my computer is 5 years old, drivers must be out of date so I am thinking of updating through device manager unless it is better to go to manufacturer site, I will not touch bios, heard too many horror stories on that one.

    You don't really need to.
Since when do people need to update a standard Keyboard driver. Mine's dated 2006 version 10.0.16299.15
Realtek Audio dated 2013 version 6.0.1.7023
If it ain't broke don't try and fix it.
"all is fine but drivers out of date by years. "
    It works...
Windows updates knows about it why worry. Look at the Events Tab you will have much more recent dates in there.
Mines 4 years old and only had updates from MS updates, apart from the BIOS/UEFI, and an upgrade to Windows 10. All drivers work properly. Zero effort, great...

Look at it this way- your build is 1709. You got a new set of drivers when you upgraded to 1709.
