Devices and Printers slow to open

In the control panel , Devices and Printers is slow to open. Takes a 5 sec or more search but it does finally open and all the devices are there.

    Any suggestions.

I have a HP photosmart 7760 printer. I uninstalled any old software. Unplugged the printer USB cable. In Devices and Printers removed 7760 printer. Waited a couple mins. Plugged in the 7760 printer USB cable. Win 10 prompted and installed the printer.
    Now it opens almost instantly.

    Not really solved

I see several posts about this problem, some suggest changing the settings on some of the bluetooth services or removing devices from the window "devices and printers" after it loads (all bluetooth devices and media devices). None of this has worked for me. The problem also exists in opening the "network" window.

I have an i7 based notebook that previously opened these windows instantly under Win7. With more than a hundred programs on this machine I am loath to do a clean install.

I have done a clean boot, same thing. A safe mode boot does not work because the option of selecting devices and printers does not even exist. Can anyone shed more light on this issue?

Try unplugging each device and delete the drivers. Reboot. Until Device and printers open instantly. Then plug in one unit let the device driver install. check it. reboot. etc. I'm sure it's a driver issue and not Win 10.

Tried that with no success. Then I stumbled on another thread that fixed the problem. The Realtek HD Audio driver is the culprit.

    Please see:

Note that you have to actually remove the Realtek driver and install the Microsoft driver instead.

    Not solved for me

I have this problem also. Tried all of the above without success. I do not have a Realtek driver in my system. My "devices and printers" list takes several minutes to load. I would like to try to remove all of my grayed out "generic volume shadow copy" devices but have not found a method or program that works with Windows 10. I would appreciate any help with this.

I don't use the Realtek audio driver I am already using the Microsoft audio driver. I have my printers connected wired if it matters.

We shouldn't have to make any concessions for a whiz bang cutting-edge 2015 modern operating system from the worlds largest designer of operating systems. If you looked at this thread without realizing where you are, you'd think that we were talking about working to make modern Devices and Printers load, and show up properly on Windows-XP. On Windows-10, everything should load faster than it did on Windows 7...or 8.

    Additional note

I guess that i didn't stress the point about the Realtek driver enough. It is important that you first use device manager to uninstall the driver. Do not reboot. Next change the security settings on the Realtek folder to prevent re-installation. See the posting by BradB111 at
How to stop Windows 10 automatically installing Realtek audio drivers? - Windows 10 Forums
Basically this makes it impossible for anyone to access these drivers. Now you can reboot. This normally will result in the installation of the Microsoft HD Audio generic driver. The effect on the slow opening of "Devices and Printers" is repeatable.
Changing security and permissions is not easy and readers are urged to search for tutorials on this before proceeding.

One final note - do not remove the Realtek folder as it will simply be re-created. You need to have a folder in place but with security settings that prevents it from being used.

I see that Realtek has released later versions that may work with Win10, I am happy with the generic driver and I don't want to waste more time trying it.

Actually I do this now. What I am quoting is from the Realtek driver forum here. This does not prevents the drivers from installing but you don't have to use them.
Got driver updates on windows update but they would not install without a UAC prompt. Installed them still flat sound so I went into device manager and did not roll back the drivers I chose let me pick, ignore the stupid warning and just chose the Microsoft HD Audio driver and now it is back to full sound. I then disabled all the Realtek startup junk. Now even when I choose to automatically check for updates it does not push the cruddy Realtek driver anymore as long as I keep it installed but don't use it.
